Parent Teacher Interviews

Interview times will be made available for booking shortly. As interviews are via phone this year, we have increased the amount of time for interviews from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. This unfortunately means that there will be fewer evening slots to book on Wednesday April 13. As a result, we will also make some times available on Tuesday April 12 between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Last week I wrote about the impact parents can have on their children’s educational by modelling (intentionally and unintentionally) good learning habits. Research reinforces the importance of parental engagement for children’s cognitive, social and emotional development.

Parent-Teacher Interviews later this term is an opportunity for this type of engagement. These sessions are an ideal opportunity to discover more about your child’s academic, emotional and social progress, and to share information about your child with his or her teacher. This is also an opportunity to gain deeper insight about your child’s strengths and interests and to get to know your child’s teacher.

With a limited amount of time with your child’s teachers, be prepared in advance. Maybe even ask your child how they believe things are going at school and talk to them after the interview about what you discovered. You will have the opportunity to respond or raise any concerns but remember that you and your child’s teachers want the same things for your child.

Interviews are run on a tight schedule but if you run out of time, you can always arrange another conversation to continue the discussion. Your child’s teacher will be happy to arrange a time to chat about any ongoing issues or concerns.
