Middle Years

Over the holidays I spent quite some time looking through data about student well-being and learning. One of the things that I consistently found was that the strongest well-being factor associated with learning was perseverance.

Perseverance refers to having the tenacity to stick with things and pursue a goal, despite any challenges that may occur. You finish things that you start, even if it takes a while. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Term Two is an important time academically for Middle Years students. It’s when they get to demonstrate perseverance and persistence in the face of academic challenges.

I encourage Middle Years students to reflect upon their achievements in Term One and  also ask themselves these three questions:

  1. What do I want to achieve this term?
  2. What am I going to do to help achieve this?
  3. When things get tough, what is my plan to help me persevere through these tough times?

I hope you all have enjoyed being back at school with your peers this week and I encourage the MYPEC students to focus on perseverance and learning this term.
