From the Principal

Welcome to Term 2

It has been a great start to Term 2, with a range of learning and extra-curricular experiences taking place across the school. So far this term our students exhibited outstanding citizenship, sporting achievements and leadership. It has also been a pleasure to invite parents back into the school to celebrate student success.

Killara Academy

Killara Academy has officially commenced. This is an extra-curricular experience for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. On Tuesday 3 May, criminologist Dr Carolyn McKay presented on the work she undertakes, and on Friday 29 April, we had medical doctor Dr Natasha Feingold present to our students. Both speakers provided students with an insight into their professional journey.

Killara Schools Partnership Strings Workshop Monday 2 May

It was great to have parents and family members visit the school to be an audience for our wonderful musicians. On Monday this week, students from Lindfield East Public School and Killara Public School joined together with Killara High School students to perform in our Kerrabee Theatre. Students ranging from different year groups, including Year 2 and Year 11 worked together, with high school students taking the role of mentors for the primary school musicians. Students performed as part of a large ensemble. I thank Ms Dale and Ms Dixon for their effort in helping this event take place. I also thank our conductor Mar’yana Sywak for her work with students on this day.

Girls Open Knockout Volleyball Round 3 - Tuesday 3 May

Congratulations to our girls open volleyball team who were successful against Davidson High School. I thank our student referees who assisted this event. Volleyball is increasing in popularity, and it is great to share this success with our community. I thank Mr Yeo for supporting our students during this event.

Stage 6 Drama Incursion - Zeal Theatre Workshop

Year 11 and Year 12 Drama students participated in a highly practical and insightful Drama incursion on Tuesday 3 May. Under the guidance of professional performers, students learnt about a range of dramatic techniques. It was great to see our students working together and encouraging each other. Thank you, Mr Lofts, for organising this opportunity.

ANZAC Commemorative Ceremonies at Roseville and Gordon

Our student leaders represented our school with pride at recent ANZAC commemorative services. Several students, along with a group of teachers attended Roseville Memorial Park for the dawn service. Finn from Year 12 performed the Last Post, and our captains Jessica and Nathan placed a commemorative wreath at the memorial site. We held our school’s ANZAC Assembly on Thursday 28 April. On Sunday 1 May, Hayden, Ariana, Tiana, Kelly and Nimita all represented the school as they attended a commemorative service at St John’s Church in Gordon. These students laid a wreath of remembrance and represented the school with pride.

Our students represented Killara High School with honour at these community events. I thank Mrs Schofield for her organisation of these events.

Rugby

Congratulations to Killara High School students Angus, Archie and Thomas on their success in rugby last week. These students are part of the Sydney North Rugby Union team, that is coached by our wonderful PDHPE teacher Mr Date. These students represented the school with pride and achieved an outstanding result. I thank Mr Date for supporting these students and unleashing the team’s potential. The event took place in Coffs Harbour.
