Principal’s Message

IAs we end another term at Castlemaine Secondary College I would like to thank the college community for their support in these sometimes challenging times. The resilience of our students as they navigate a combination of on-site and remote learning continues to impress us all. Our staff remain committed to providing the highest standard of education regardless of the format in which they need to deliver it. The partnership between home and the college continues to be an important element in the achievement of strong student outcomes.

Throughout this term there have been significant changes within the college which it is important to acknowledge. Staff who have left us to pursue other opportunities include Leading Teacher David Watson, Maths and Science teacher Vanessa Robinson and Maths and PE teacher Caitlyn Walsh. Our Business Manager Elissa O’Connor and Finance Manager Helen Sly are also among these staff. The transition of staff within the education system is always a possibility and we are working hard to replace these staff and maintain an orderly learning environment for our students in the face of such changes. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of these staff for their significant contributions to the college.

As you read your child’s report please take the time to discuss their progress with them and to help them to plan and set goals for next term and beyond. We begin Term 3 with the course counselling process and information evenings for students in years 8-11 and we look forward to engaging in these conversation with you and your child. If you have any questions about this, or the reports once they are released, please contact the college in Term 3 to have your query appropriately referred.

Our senior students will no doubt have plenty of work and study to complete but, after a busy term, it is important that all students take the opportunity to have a break from their studies and engage in some activities that focus on their own self-care.

I hope all families have a safe break and I look forward to welcoming you back in Term 3.

Face Masks

Reminder, it is a requirement for all students travelling on the school buses to wear masks whislt on the bus and inside the school buildings.

Can parents/carers please ensure you supply masks to your children.

Uniform

Our approach for managing uniform at our College is based on being supportive to students and their families, with the aim of removing barriers which prevent students from being in uniform. To improve the efficiency of this process and make students more responsible, we are making some slight changes to our process. The process for managing uniform can be found at College Website > School Life > College Processes. The rationale for students wearing uniform, as defined by the Department of Education is as follows;

  • allowing all students to feel equal
  • preventing bullying and competition on the basis of clothing
  • ensuring students’ appearance reflects the expectations of their school community
  • enhancing the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community
  • strengthening the spirit of community within the school
  • enhancing individual student safety and group security
  • ensuring all students are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities
  • encouraging students to develop pride in their appearance
  • preparing students for the expectations of workplaces

Families should be aware that financial support is available for purchasing student uniform, specifically through contacting your child’s mentor teacher or the Wellbeing Team.
