Visit by Youth Choirs

As part of this year’s Festival of Voices, acclaimed youth choir Exaudi will be coming to Hobart.  We have been fortunate to be offered a workshop with the members of Exaudi and their conductor, Mark O’Leary alongside a capella group Burgundy Blue.

Exaudi and Burgundy Blue will visit Friends’ on Tuesday 29 June and workshop with members of Bella Voce and Man Choir in The Farrall Centre from 3.00pm until 5.00pm, followed by a shared pizza dinner in the Clemes Undercroft until 5.30pm.

Members of the Year 7/8 Choir are welcome to join this workshop and dinner, however, due to their involvement in the Festival of Voices’ “Tasmania Sings” event the same week, participation will be optional for these students.

Please complete this form to indicate involvement in the workshop and dinner by Monday 28 June.

This is a very rare opportunity and one that we are sure will be enjoyable and beneficial for our singers. For further information, please contact Paul Radford or Kerry Bennett.

House Dance Drama 2021

This Friday’s High School Assembly will be a House competition. Previously we have alternated the House Drama and House Dance competitions, but in light of no event in 2020, this year we have asked the House teams to tell us a story in five songs. We are looking forward to an entertaining combination of acting and dancing from over 90 students. Our three specially invited judges will award the trophy to Best on the Day and the Heads of High School will be looking for Best Story, Best Costuming, Funniest Moment and New Unearthed Talent! May the best house win!

Hobart City Mission - fundraising, warm clothing and blanket drive

With an average of 744 individuals homeless each year, and more than 40% of Tasmanians being under the national average income, the support Hobart City Mission provides to families and those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness is vital.

More than 120,000 Tasmanians live below the poverty line. As housing costs rise, it is more difficult for Tasmanians earning low and moderate incomes to find affordable housing. The chronic shortage of affordable rental housing in Tasmania is a major cause of homelessness and a barrier to pathways out of homelessness.

From now until the end of the Term the High School Council and Stewardship Committee encourage donations of warm clothing, i.e. good quality warm jackets, jumpers, polar fleece tops, blankets, scarves, socks, beanies, and blankets to the High School Library. We will have a couch in the HS Library as a collection point; representing those people who often have to ‘couch surf’ through periods of housing crisis. Please bring these items to school from now onwards.

Or if you would prefer to donate money for the Winter Appeal you can bring money to our collection bucket located in the High School Office.

There will also be a casual dress day and Bake Sale on Tuesday 29 June. Students can make a donation of a gold coin or warm, clean items in good condition on the day, and may contribute to the Bake Sale by baking and/or purchasing an item on the day.

Let’s do what we can to make a difference for those experiencing hardship.
