Year 7 Term 2

Year 7 Sport Rally Day

By Michelle La and Melissa Keive St Rafka

On the 24th of June, the year 7 had their first rally day, runned by the year 9. It was a great day for a rally and fortunately, it wasn’t raining on that day. The first thing we did when all the year 7 gathered at the oval, we were separated into our house colors teams, and then we were separated into two more groups, group 1 and group 2. The two groups would both play different activities and win points for their house team.

One of the activities that we played was kickball. We first did a warm up by playing fruit salad and it really did warm us up. After we finished warming up, we then began to play kickball. There were two teams, the batting team and the fielding team, and there were hoops around the court. The batting team would kick the ball and while the fielding team is getting the ball, the batters run into the hoops. Kickball is basically softball/baseball but kicking instead. It was a really fun game with teamwork.

Another activity that the year 7 played was Dodgeball! Dodgeball was very very fun to play, everyone was very competitive while playing and everyone enjoyed it very much. From what we experienced while playing the game, it was very intense and everyone wanted to win points for their team. Dodgeball was a great and exciting game that everyone liked very much.

One other activity was Number Basketball. In this game the two teams go on one side of the court and they were given numbers like 1,2 and so on, once your number is called, you run onto the court and start playing basketball like normal, when one team scores a point, all the players go back to the side of the court and the other numbers get called out. This game is all about teamwork with others and having a spirit of sport! Every student participated in the game.

One last activity that we played was Capture The Flag/Ball. This game was not on the court but was on the oval instead.  The oval was split into 2 halves and there was a jail place and a safe place. So then the team players needed to get the ball and get it to their side.  But they needed to be careful of the other team because they would've gotten to go to jail if they got tagged. The jail place was for people who got tagged by the other team players and the safe place was for the other players to be safe so they were closer to the ball. This was a challenging game because everyone was guarding their area. Even if this game was quite challenging it was an overall fun game to play.

Overall everyone enjoyed every second of the rally day because all the activities held by the year 9 were really entertaining and exciting. Congratulations to Mackillop, Romero, Brigid and Chisholm, but our overall winner is…Romero! Congratulations! We appreciate the year 9 for holding this rally day and we were all pumped up about it. Thank you!
