Year 10 Photography and Film

The silver gelatin photographic unit, for the Year 10 elective Photography and Film, commenced in Term 2, when the Year 10 Art classes went on an all day excursion to the Monash Gallery of Art and to McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery. Students took photographs using an SLR camera, at the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery and later at the Springvale Town Hall and the College grounds, on the theme of ‘Truth’. In the artworks below, it is evident that students considered the art elements and principles and composition for each photograph they took. In Term 3, students developed their film and processed their photographs in our darkroom. 

In this subject, students have had the opportunity to work in a variety of photographic art forms such as camera-less photography, digital photography and analogue methods, such as the darkroom.

Before this unit I had rarely even held a modern camera. However, after using the film camera I became more proficient in understanding how to take a good quality image. Also, after undertaking the process of developing film I understand how certain steps work and wish to do a better job next time. Tharuha

This unit has taught me many different aspects and types of photography and the procedure it takes to develop a photograph (which some photographers still prefer to do). There’s more to it. It's not just taking a photograph on a digital camera and printing the results. Ridhima

I improved my skills in capturing pictures and developing images. I have a better idea and clearer understanding on how to develop photographs. Now that I have some experience in producing images; I feel more confident in myself. Jessica
