Cura personalis

The care of each individual person in all their dimensions’ (cura personalis) is one of the characteristics of Ignatian education. The concept, though not the phrase, is from Ignatius of Loyola.

The beginning of this academic year was interrupted due to the pandemic and our semester is concluding with restrictions in place. Throughout the semester, the cooperation of our students, staff and families has been excellent as the College has responded to wider societal challenges. Locally, nationally and internationally, Australians have sought to care for themselves and others.

Leaders are sometimes criticised for ‘moving too slowly or too quickly’ depending on the perspective that is offered. In an Ignatian sense, discernment is when prayer meets action. It is the process of choosing the better of good options. Like Monday’s experts after a weekend of sport, the correct decision is often viewed with the benefit of hindsight. However, we do express gratitude for the decision making that has been made in Australia when clearly the care of people is the prime consideration.

Flexibility and agility have been required at the College. The events of the past week have presented further challenges and I thank our students, staff and families for their understanding and support. We again had excellent attendance with 84% of students at school today.

Thank you to all students for their good spirit and diligent efforts throughout the semester. They remain an absolute delight to work with!

We also express appreciation to our dedicated staff and especially acknowledge the following as they conclude their time at the College or commence a period of extended leave:

  • Maria Coate – Humanties
  • Kaye Mason – Mathematics
  • Caitlin Reynolds – Year 3
  • Marie Ryan – Education Assistant
  • Steve Saunders – Rowing
  • Michelle Myers – Long Service Leave
  • Alison Pattinson – Parental Leave

Year 12 Pilgrimage Program

Unfortunately, the COVID situation has necessitated the cancellation of the Year 12 pilgrimage to the Northern Territory in the school holidays. The Year 12 pilgrims called a meeting during the week and presented our Director of Faith and Mission, Ms Janeen Murphy, with flowers, which was a beautiful gesture. Our students are naturally disappointed, but they are an incredible group of young people! As always, Ms Murphy’s preparation with the students has been outstanding.
