Tremendous Tennis Stars of MRPS
A huge congratulations to all of the students in Year 5/6 who represented our school last
Wednesday the 10th of March in the 2021 Head Primary School Tennis Championships.
The competition was held at Hollioake Park, Wendouree, where students competed in doubles teams against children from a range of local Ballarat schools.
Ten keen tennis players from Miners Rest including; Campbell McP, Hugh B, Archer B, Nash McK, Alexander O, Brayden J, Remmy W, Karinda H, Isabella H and Zahli C did a tremendous job battling it out on the courts with Remmy and Karinda coming runners up to Clarendon College.
We are very proud of everyone who attended and showed what excellent sportspeople our Miners Rest crew are!
An extra big thankyou also goes to Ash Haywood who helped out on the day and to all the parents, carers and supporters who made sure the students arrived organised and on time ready to play!
Practise makes perfect in PE
It’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN to our TOTALLY TERRIFIC whole school SPORTS CARNIVAL
happening on Wednesday March 31st and the BALL SPORTS on Thursday 1st April at Miners Rest.
We are pumped to see you all in your house colours cheering, smiling and having fun while competing as a whole school like times of old!
All year levels have been continuing to focus on practising the events they will be undertaking on the day including perfecting skills such as throwing shot put and discus and jumping in the long jump pit. There have been very positive attitudes in our Physical Education classes with everyone opting to ‘have a go’ at longer distance running events, baton relays and high jump. High jump is performed, recorded and judged by Katherine and Miss Wood during school PE times. Finalists in the high jump were notified and completed their final jumps with Katherine today in the blue hall.
Cross Country Try Outs
On Thursday the 25th of March (Week 9) we will be holding cross country try outs for
students who prefer longer distance racing.
Students aged 9 and 10 years will be asked to run 2km with 11+ year old children focusing on a 3km track around the Miners Rest Park.
Katherine will come around to classes today to write down students interested in this event.
Netball news
What an amazing sporting community we have out here at Miners Rest! This very dedicated group of girls represent our school in netball, every week, at the Ballarat Netball Association courts. Their dedicated parents help to train them every Thursday night and we are extremely grateful for the support and guidance they receive. We are very proud of their weekly efforts and love that they are showing what AWESOME sports people we have at our school. GO GIRLS!
