From the Executive

While I have met so many of you at various events throughout Term 1, this is the first time I’ve had the chance to write to you from the perspective of my new role as Deputy Principal, Learning and Teaching.
Of the four Deputy Principal roles, mine is perhaps the least public-facing as my role primarily involves empowering the people most instrumental to your son’s successful education at school, his teachers. We are truly blessed at Mazenod College that we attract and retain exceptional staff, and I see it as a privilege to work with them. I know that a key reason our teachers choose to work at the college is the support and affirmation they receive from our families, so I thank you and ask you to continue offering that support.
Already this year we have implemented a number of initiatives to support the quality delivery of educational outcomes for your sons, including:
- A targeted government-supported tutoring program for students who found remote learning a challenge;
- A renewed partnership with Monash University and the Australian Research Council to improve the use of data-informed practices at Mazenod; and
- A staff professional development program based on research-based high impact teaching strategies.
In this new role, I am particularly aware that our families choose to send their sons to Mazenod because we achieve exceptional outcomes in faith, academics, and the development of the whole person. I am committed to not only uphold the academic standards of the College but empowering teachers to improve these outcomes through quality professional development and collaborative practice.
I welcome feedback from parents and students at any time, and can always be contacted at the college.
Dr Matthew Fyfield
Deputy Principal
(Learning & Teaching)
