Vermont Secondary College

Face Masks Update

As directed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer, from 11.59pm Friday 26 February, face masks are no longer mandatory in all indoor spaces in the broader community. Masks are still required in limited indoor settings, such as public transport, commercial passenger vehicles and large retail settings.

At schools, this means that face masks are no longer mandatory in all indoor spaces for school staff and secondary school students aged 12 or older.

Requirements for the use of masks are outlined below. Visitors and parents must also observe this guidance.

  • Face masks are recommended, but not mandatory, for use by staff, students and visitors when physical distancing of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained.
  • People aged 12 years and over must always carry a face mask – unless they have a lawful exemption.
  • People aged 12 years and over must wear a face mask when on public transport, school buses and when in taxis or ride share vehicles – unless they have a lawful exemption.

VSC DIVISION SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Friday 26th of February I was fortunate enough to support our students competing in the Division Swimming Carnival held at the Oakleigh recreation Centre. The competition is held against Mount Waverley SC, Highvale SC and Glen Waverley SC. Every year it is an extremely tight contest particularly with Mount Waverley Secondary College.

This year with another extremely capable and enthusiastic group of swimmers Vermont Secondary College took out the Senior Division while being runners-up in the Intermediate and Junior Division to Mount Waverley SC. As a result, when the points were tallied across the three age divisions Mount Waverley SC was successful on the day.

Congratulations to them and congratulations to all our swimmers and to the many Vermont students who won their events and will be competing at the Region Finals on Tuesday March 23rd at Aquanation. Refer to the sports page in this newsletter for further details about the day!

A big thank you to Amy Malander and Sean Gillespie (Sports Leaders) for all their planning leading up to the day and for their work with the team on the day. Thanks also to the staff that helped out on the day - Mike Stevens, Karin Hubble and Leanne Callegaro.
