Authors to visit NHS to run Student Writing Workshops

 

Extending on last year’s inaugural NHS Writers’ Festival and linking with the last two successful Literary Talkfest, this year’s Writers’ Festival will be running a series of workshops for students.  They will be able to speak to and work with a range of successful authors in a series of workshops running from Monday, 15th August until Friday, 19th.

 

Returning to Northcote High School after being panelists on the Literary Talkfests are authors Simmone Howell and Ruth Claire.  Also returning from last year’s Writer’s festival is Archie Fusillo.  Joining them are John Harms, James Thyer and Tric O’Heare.

 

The workshops topics include:

  • Sports Writing
  • Writing Memoirs and Autobiography
  • Writing Young Adult Fiction
  • Illustrating and Publishing online
  • Creating new fiction
  • Creating poetry
  • The publishing industry

Students will be able to make selections for their preferred workshops using myNH in the coming week.

A Poetry Slam with MC Mantra for students, parents and staff will take place at 7.00pm on Friday 19th August.

 

The Community Festival will be welcoming students, parents and the community on Saturday 20th of August between 12 midday and 4pm, to the presentation sessions listed below:

There will be music, and food available, and Fairfield Bookshop will be onsite. Each session will be 45 minutes long, leaving time to ponder, chat, and have a book signed.

Student writing by Year 7 and Year 8 students will be on display from Monday to Saturday, and parents and community members are welcome to view it during that time.

 

Students will be informed about how to join the workshop sessions by their English teachers.
