Monash Scholars Program

Congratulations to the following Year 10 students who have been offered a place in the Monash Scholars Program:

Esther Bentley

Margi Doshi

Haoru Qin

Through the program, these students will have the opportunity to further develop and excel academically and personally.  As a scholar at Monash, they will be able to explore and pinpoint their passions, develop a broad suite of study skills, and gain the confidence to make great course and career choices. They’ll also have the opportunity to build a personal network of peers and academics that will last through to university and beyond.

Magic Moments leadership summit

During the school holidays, we were lucky enough to be sponsored by the Clifton Hill Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank to attend the Magic Moments’ Youth Business and Leadership Summit. This opportunity followed our involvement in the Young Changemakers program last year, and was the first time the Clifton Hill Community Bank and Northcote High School had sent students to the event.

After meeting leaders from all around the country at the airport, we were taken to our accommodation in Collaroy, along the Northern Beaches of Sydney. The summit kicked off as soon as everyone was assembled, as we were introduced to each other, our ‘grad’ leaders, the speakers and staff at the event. Part of the aim of the program was to take us out of our comfort zones, which it certainly did. The shock of being in such a foreign environment with frankly ‘bonkers' mentors was settled as we were separated into groups of ten, who we would be working with over the summit.

In the next five days, we learnt about managing our finances, trading options, leadership and relations skills, with no less than five individual speakers. We also had our leadership, communication and cooperation skills put to the test when our team faced all the others in the ‘Team Olympics’.

Throughout these activities, which required thinking ‘outside of the box’, lots of communication and perseverance, we became very close friends as a group. We may have finished 11th out of 12 teams in the final rankings, but we sure enjoyed ourselves.

We came out of the Summit with personal and business skills that we will implement in our current and future lives, as well as plenty of good memories.

Thank you to Peter Hille from the Community Bank, as well as Airlie Tudhope from Northcote for giving us this fantastic opportunity.
