Minister James Merlino with Principal Ma , Kate Morris and Nick Murphy, after the signing

VCE Offshore

Last week in Tianjin, China, NHS signed a VCE partnership agreement with Huaibei No 1 High School - Tianyi HS (our sister school since 1999). Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino and DET Deputy Secretary Gill Callister  signed the agreement with Principal Ma Ying.  NHS also signed a VCE partnership agreement with VCAA at the same ceremony - John Firth CEO of VCAA hosted the signing ceremony.  In the days prior, Principal Kate Morris visited Huaibei and its Tianyi campus, meeting with teachers, students, the school leadership team plus Huaibei Education Bureau and City officials, including Vice Mayor Lili Wang.

This signing marks a significant point in new opportunities in internationalising education for Victorian Government Schools with Northcote and Huaibei No. 1 HS, being the first government to government schools able to offer the VCE in China.

Congratulations to Nick Murphy who has headed up this ground breaking project over the past 4 years in partnership with with Ma Ying (Principal Huaibei No. 1 HS and Chair of Tianyi HS) ably support by an excellent project team from both schools.

This is a significant moment for both of our schools and marks another first in sister school relations.  Our schools have always been focused on seeking new ways to take our 17 years of friendship and educational cooperation to a new levels and the VCE in China Program is a peak exemplar.
