Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

It has certainly been a busy time at Trinity over the last couple of weeks. Last week we ran the Year 11 and 12 Retreats as well as Year 10 camp. All of these events were thoroughly enjoyed by the students and staff and will hopefully provide some lasting memories for the students.

I attended the Year 12 Retreat and can’t speak highly enough of the students.

Each and every person who attended thoroughly immersed themselves in the experience and the respect they showed to each other, the environment and to all the staff was commendable.

The retreat combined physical activities such as bush walking, ropes courses and canoeing with small group activities focussed on a variety of topics.

The retreat was facilitated by Sam Clear, who conducted large group presentations and activities that centered on his experience of walking across a number of countries to promote unity in Christian churches.

Sam’s story is certainly an inspirational one. He overcame near death experiences, met some wonderful people and showed incredible courage and resilience throughout the 15 months he spent walking.

I would like to thank all of our Year 12 families for contributing to the retreat through writing a letter to your child.

This activity was definitely the highlight of the retreat and, while being extremely emotional, will be something the students remember forever.

On Tuesday this week staff spent the professional learning day working on a number of important areas. We spent the morning analysing a variety of data sources including the survey responses from the Insight SRC surveys that were completed by all staff, all students and over 80 families last year.

The feedback contained in the survey results along with multiple other sources of data allow the staff to celebrate what Trinity College is doing well but also establish goals and strategies around areas we can improve. Tuesday was the first stage of our school improvement process.

The school’s improvement goals and strategies will be shared with our community once the process is finalised.

This year we have made changes to the structure of our College Open Day. Open Day will take place on Thursday, March 25 and will include two sessions.

In the morning between 9 and 11 students will lead tours of the school that will allow prospective families to see the school in action. Normal classes will run and tour groups will have the opportunity to enter in and out of classrooms to experience first hand the learning taking place.

On the same afternoon more formal tours and presentations will take place beginning at 4pm and running until 6.30pm.

The afternoon session will begin with a presentation in the Jubilee Centre followed by a tour of the facilities that will include some interactive activities for the children.

Light refreshments will be provided at the afternoon session. Everyone is welcome and registrations will take place on arrival so there is no need to book.

After the interruptions in 2020 we are really looking forward to being able to invite our community into the school.
