Principal's Message

State Swimming Qualifiers

Well done to all of our swimmers who competed at the North Coast PSSA Swimming Championships in Coffs Harbour this week.

Big news from the pool is that Mia Ryan finished 1st in the 9 Years Freestyle and Isaac Ryan, 2nd in the Senior Boys Backstroke, meaning both have qualified for the NSW PSSA State Championships!

Home Reading

As part of our strategic focus on reading we are continuing to promote home reading. It has been pleasing to see this continuing to grow across the school. There have been many reports from parents about how they are enjoying being able to have a deeper conversation with their children about the books they are reading at home.

Vocabulary development is essential to improving comprehension.  Remember to always make reading fun.

Attendance

Over the last 2 weeks we have had 287 students (over 70% of our school) attend every day. This is a fantastic effort. Every Monday teachers will acknowledge the students who have had 100% attendance for the previous week as part of our effort to encourage and celebrate regular attendance.

Wet Start

It has been an extremely wet start to the year and our students have been fantastic in coping with the restricted play areas. It was only this week that we were able to have some turf laid which was meant to happen at the start of the year. There have been many days, even when it has not been raining, that we still have not been able to let the students out to the oval for a run.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to move safely inside the school and the roads around the school.

Pick Ups

Pick ups have improved now that more of our new students are in routine and more parents are aware of the process. It is very important that this runs smoothly. Here are a few things we could still do to have this happen more efficiently:

  1. If your child needs to be strapped in it is probably best to come after 3 and find a park. If you need to do the drive through pick up in this scenario please have the car seat that your school aged child uses on the curb side of the car.
  2. When you have a grandparent or friend picking up your child please make sure they understand the process. We have had people getting out of their car and walking into the school from the pick up line. This stops the whole line from progressing and is also illegal.
  3. Keep moving forward when you can.
  4. Some parents have made up their own name tags to Velcro onto their car's visor, this will help the person calling names through the walkie talkie.

Sincere thanks for your support.

Rotary Club of Sawtell Donation

A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Sawtell who have donated to our school a total value of $755.00 in readers for literacy. The donation consisted of PM Series and TCM Readers plus a bonus box guided reading cards. Thanks to Peter and Warren for taking the time to come to school and deliver these valuable resources.
