Term 3 Comes to an End!

Term 3 has proved to be extremely busy and it has been pleasing to see the children immerse themselves in activities and work hard to develop their skills in all areas of the curriculum.

A highlight this term has definitely been the children's involvement in our recent school production. Many children expressed how nervous they were to dance and perform on stage in front of an audience. To their credit, the children put their nerves aside and put on a stellar performance. It was a priceless moment to see the smiles on the children's faces as they performed their dance moves. All Foundation students looked amazing! We thank each and every parent for their support and for ensuring their child was dressed the part.

A Teaching Sequence For Integrating Time Concepts & Telling the Time

Recently in Maths, Foundation students have been focussing on sequencing events, with an emphasis on those that occur during the school day. Discussions have occurred based on 'what comes after?' and 'what happens next?'

Students have learnt about the cycle of events that occur throughout the year. These include days of the week as well as months and seasons in the year.

Students have become familiar with the duration of events by estimating. and counting how many times a particular event can be performed in a chosen period.

They have also become familiar with the features of an analogue and digital clock.

Both clocks have been introduced simultaneously to our students and they have practised showing and reading the time on both clocks. In Foundation, when teaching students to tell the time, we focus on the position of the hour hand and associate hourly times with events throughout the day.

Community Helpers' Social Action

This term, students in Foundation have learnt about what communities need to function effectively. The children learnt about resources/facilities/services available in our locality and the role people play in their occupation.

Recently, as part of writing, the children brainstormed what makes our school an effective community. The list was expansive and included the following:

*Playground

*Investigations

*Learning

*Specialist Classes

*Staff

*Special Events

*Leaders

*Clubs

*Friends

*Buddies

*Church

The children chose one area they wanted to write about and elaborate. As part of their social action, the children will be working in groups to pool their ideas and create a promotional video about our school.
