Year 10 Powering Careers in Energy
The Year 10 Powering Careers in Energy (PCiE) elective sponsored by Chevron Australia aims to increase students’ awareness of the LNG industry’s significance in Western Australia and globally, with an emphasis on the many and changing career options this presents. As well as several visits from Energy industry professionals, the elective currently includes two excursions.
In June we attended the Get into Resources Day at East Perth TAFE, which focuses on the Mining and Minerals sector. Yesterday saw us at RAC Arena for the LNG Exploration Day, which is run solely by Chevron Australia.
Although with a different focus, each event is in a conference format, with keynote speakers, group activities and challenges, presentations, and workshops. They bring together all the elements of our course and expose the participants to a range of careers available in both sectors.
I want to thank and congratulate our PCiE students on their conduct and the way they represented Trinity College at each event.

Term 3 has been sailing ahead! It’s already Week 8 and I find myself trying to savour every moment that’s left of the year. There’s only seven more days till the Year 12s pack up their lockers and head home to prepare for their upcoming exams or to have a little relaxation. Year 12 music prodigy Alan Ngo told me that “It’s sad when you think how close we are to the finish, but I’m excited to see what the future holds”.
Late last week, our Middle School, Senior School, and combined (Trinity and Mercedes) chorales performed their Catholic Performing Arts pieces, for the Senior Choral Singing section. It was a culmination of many long Friday afternoons of practice, but all the effort put in made it such a spectacular night. It was hosted in our very own Gibney Hall, and everyone involved should be commended for their effort and dedication. Speaking of singing, preparation is underway for the Year 12 graduation song, that the Year 10s, 11s and 12s will perform at presentation night.
This Tuesday, we held our Winter Sports Assembly, and it was a great way to praise the boys that really excelled in their respective teams. As with each year, the Captains of each sport delivered their addresses and summary of the season, and I’m sure their words inspired many of the younger boys to strive to play in a 1st team. One of the memorable words spoken was from the Cross-Country skipper, Will Day, who finished his speech with the striking statement, “sit in the fire” that resonated amongst the audience, and roared through the Senior boys. Many were left puzzled with what its true meaning was, but from what I can gather, you must learn to embrace the difficult times, embrace the pain and suffering, and you will gain so much from it.
During the Assembly, we also heard from our Athletics Captain for 2022, James Watson, who offered his words of wisdom and talked about the upcoming PSA Athletics Carnival, taking place this Friday. I know that the cheer squad is excited to get out there and support all the athletes that are representing the blue and green, and I wish all athletes the best of luck.
I’d like to end on a quote from one of my favourite films. Tony Stark said in Avengers: Endgame, “Part of the journey is the end”, so to my fellow Year 12 peers: don’t be discouraged that we are near the end, let’s embrace these final days, make the most of them, and finish strong!
