FATHER'S DAY

I hope all dads and father figures in our community had a great day last Sunday. This morning, Sacred Heart College celebrated Father’s Day with breakfast. It was a great success and it was really pleasing to see so many dads and father figures here to be part of the celebration. Many thanks to the P&F, Mr Adrian Goh and Mrs Liza Baskovich for organising today’s event.

MR PAUL DILLON

Also today, the College welcomed Mr Paul Dillon to speak to our senior students. Mr Dillon is the Director and Founder of DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia). He is passionate about ensuring that the community, and particularly school aged students, are aware of the serious issues relating to drugs and alcohol. I am sure that our students valued his presentation and learnt much from his insights and advice.

R U OK? DAY

Yesterday was international R U OK? Day. Every year, Sacred Heart College promotes R U OK? Day and its important message. The day is a reminder to us all that every day is a good opportunity to check in with a friend, family member or colleague and connect with them by having meaningful conversations.

Throughout the week, our PCG teachers shared various resources with their students on ‘how to ask the question', played R U OK? bingo and participated in online quizzes. A video made by many of our talented Year 12 students on ‘how to ask the question’ and what to do if you feel your friend ‘isn’t ok’ was also shown. Thursday morning kicked off with our Captains in the Kiss ‘n’ Drive where it was great fun to join them to help brighten parents’/grandparents’ days by handing out Kit Kats. All students received a Kit Kat in PCG to encourage them to "take a break" and check-in in with their friends or family members.

During lunchtime, many of our dedicated teachers and House Coordinators organised basketball games, soccer shoot outs, handball competitions, football handball, mindfulness colouring in, board games and a Kahoot!

Thank you to our Health and Wellbeing Committee for their dedication in ensuring this important message is promoted within our College community. A conversation can really change a life.

NAPLAN

We have now received the school NAPLAN data. These reports have been mailed home and should arrive next week. The reports have also been placed on SEQTA for parents to access at any time. Year 9 students who have performed at Band 8 or higher in Numeracy or in Reading and Writing in their NAPLAN test have already qualified for both the Numeracy and Literacy components of the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA). Year 9 parents will be informed individually if their child has further requirements for OLNA.

PERFORMING ARTS

The Spirit of the Arts Performing Arts Festival concludes on Monday evening with the Festival Concert at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. This Concert features the best of the best from this year's Performing Arts Festival season. I am delighted to have heard that many of our students performed exceptionally well. The following students have been asked to perform at the Concert: Jacinta Longamore (Year 11 Thu Duc), Luke Manning (Year 12 Thu Duc)and Carrig Plane (Cultural Captain/Year 12 Normandy). I wish our students well for their performance on Monday evening.

Our Senior Chorale performed at the North of Perth Festival on Thursday night. The Chorale won the Shield with an amazing score of 94 out of 100. The Chorale will now perform in the Winner’s Concert next term where they will be presented with the Shield. Well done and congratulations to Mr Mark Martino and the Senior Chorale.

Many of our Music students will be performing at the College Jazz 'n' Shiraz evening tomorrow evening. I am sure it will be a night full of fun and entertainment. I am looking forward to enjoying the evening with other staff, parents/caregivers and their family and friends.
