A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LYMAN

Dear BAMS Families,

Our first week is in the books! I would certainly say this has been a large transition for many kids. I suspect a lot of students are coming off summertime hours in which they could stay up late and sleep in. Most kids are also not prepared for a long day of sitting upright and paying attention. It's certainly an adjustment for everyone. We are also going back to some pre-Covid school routines. That feels really terrific!

The heat was awful for a few days, but I am proud of the kids and the staff for hanging in there. Many classrooms were in the upper 80's and the humidity was a real barrier. This is Vermont, so we just need to wait a few minutes and things will change!

We continue to teach and re-teach routines and expectations in classrooms and hallways. We run a pretty tight ship because we know kids at this age need a lot of structure. So far, the students have been amazing and following our expectations about as well as I could imagine. We are going to have a terrific year!

Finally: A reminder there is no school on Monday. Happy Labor Day! Please take some time to read this important updates below.

Sincerely,

Keith Lyman- Principal

IMPORTANT: Parent Portal and School Forms

One of the most important things you can do to be ready for the year ahead is to set up your Parent Portal account in Power School.  PowerSchool, our on-line student information system, is a valuable tool for keeping you up-to-date on your child’s attendance, coursework assignments, grades and athletic registration information. PowerSchool is also where our BAMS forms requiring parental permission are located.

By now your family should have received a letter that explains how to set up this account, and includes your specific username and password, which you will need to create the account. If you haven't yet had a chance to get your account up and running, we encourage you to do so ASAP.   For another copy of the Parent Portal Letter with your login information, assistance with completing the forms and questions regarding Power School, please contact Karen Damian, Registrar at kdamian@wsesdvt.org or call 802-451-3533. If you need assistance setting up the parent portal, contact George Bernegger at gbernegger@wsesdvt.org or call 802-451-3532.

Once you have set up your parent portal, please fill out the beginning of the year forms that we need from all BAMS families.  They can be found by clicking the “Forms” tab on the left menu of your Parent Portal page:

  • Annual Health Form
  • BAMS Student Chromebook Expectations
  • BAMS Student Handbook Signature Form
  • Brattleboro Area Middle School Short Field Trip permission form

Recognizing student achievements is an integral part of our community here at BAMS. Students' names, photographs, writing and artwork may be published on our website, newsletters and in our BAMS Yearbook.  In addition, the Honor Roll lists are submitted in the local newspapers.

At any time, parents may elect NOT to authorize BAMS to publish your student's name, photograph, writing or artwork.  If you would NOT like your student's information published, please e-mail Karen Damian, Registrar at kdamian@wsesdvt.org.

Fall Sports

Kids were able to sign-up for fall sports today. If your child did not, there is still plenty of time. They just need to see Mr. Myette. Parents need to get on the portal to complete the permission forms. Practices will begin on Thursday, September 8 after school. Most practices run until 5:15 each weekday unless otherwise noted. Weekly schedules are posted on our daily announcements. Our Athletics Website is another good resource. Please direct all questions to Mr. Kevin Myette, Athletic Director. kmyette@wsesdvt.org / (802) 451-3591

Our School's Website

Our website offers a lot of information about the school. Right on the main page, you can find links to updates sports information, announcements, and links to each team's homework website. I encourage you to check it out on a regular basis.  http://bams.wsesdvt.org/
