French Day 2022

Bonjour tout le monde!

This year’s French Day was a wonderful day of learning, creativity and fun! The 2022 theme centred around ‘Famous French People’, with this being the second year our finishing year students organised, planned and ran the day. They did an incredible job and should all feel very proud of themselves.

It was wonderful to see so many students dressed in a variety of creative French themed costumes. Thank you to parents and care-givers for your support in this. Some students also enjoyed a very special French Day lunch order of a croissant, drink and meringue and all students were treated to a très délicieux tricolore (three colour) French cookie from Naomi at the Canteen.

During our student-run assembly, the Reception/1 classes performed the song, ‘Quel Temps Fait-il’ and Mrs Jolley’s Year 3/4s read some French books out loud. A bon effort was made by all students who entered the annual French Day Competition, with this year’s entrants drawing a famous French person of their choice. Félicitations to Saige Greenbank, Molly Jones, Chase Farrant and Oceana Davies for being the overall winners on the day!

In the lunch break, Madame Martin ran Pétanque in the Penney Space and Madame Mawson showed the film ‘La Ballon Rouge’ in the Zen Den. Classes were also invited to use the Marie Antoinette and Napoleon Bonaparte photo booth in the Penney Space. Throughout the day students participated in a range of French themed activities, moving between classrooms and learning about different famous French people.

In the Castle Unit, students made Napoleon Bonaparte hats, listened to the music of Edith Piaf, practiced and performed mimes in the style of Marcel Marceau, did Science experiments like Marie Curie and painted Claude Monet’s famous Japanese footbridge with waterlilies.

Holly students made paper crocodiles inspired by the tennis player René Lacoste (followed by a hit of tennis), learnt about Louis Braille and his braille alphabet and created Henri Matisse inspired artwork by “drawing with scissors.”

In Stillwell, students became fashion designers – creating a logo and brand, followed by using fabric swatches and templates to design outfits. They also created music on Garage Band after listening to the modern sounds of DJ David Guetta.

Merci beaucoup to the teachers, SSOs and helpers who assisted throughout the day. A final merci to the Year 6 students who made the day possible.
