Metacognition through Thinking Tracks in Sustained Reading

In 4C we have been applying our metacognitive strategies to support our thinking tracks during our sustained reading session. We like to track our CAFÉ reading goals during this time and reflect deeply on our progress and where to next.

‘Our thinking tracks are so important when reading. My reading goals helps me improve my vocabulary and I transfer this into my writing and spelling’ Maahi

‘Reading the book can help build on your creativity, books can take you to a different place. Think tracks whilst reading helps you think at a deeper level about the book’. Swanya

‘Reading sets your imagination alight, in sustained reading I apply my goal ‘Summarise the text’ through my Thinking Tracks. this supports me in understanding the book better and I use my metacognition’. Shaya

‘Reading informs you and deepens your knowledge about things, we are currently learning about biographies and I have enjoyed analysing the different biographies and learning facts about people whilst also working on my reading goal. Nishok

‘Reader helps me builds my knowledge and I often make connections with my prior knowledge, think tracks help me think about my thinking as I’m reading, my metacognition. Abhanya

The author has helped me gain new vocabulary through their deliberate choices of their words and phrases. I’ve tracked this through my thinking tracks. Diyon

I love reading, they are so interesting and make me feel like I’m in another world. I have been successful with my goal ‘Use prior knowledge to find the meaning of words’ and tracked this through my thinking tracks.  Sithmi
