Ms. Joanne Knight - (Acting) Head of Careers and Pathways

As Year 12s are in their final week of Term 3 before heading into mock exams, this week’s Collective is geared towards them.

Barista and Food Safety Short Course

Axial training and International College is running a Barista, food safety and RSA short course during the coming September holidays. We have all heard of the staff shortages in hospitality, and this course which will be run over two days will equip students with the skills and qualifications to help with part-time employment while studying at university. If students would like any further details, including costs, please come and see me.

ACU Talk Seminars

Australian Catholic University is holding a series of “Talk with” seminars with a range of professionals to enable students to gather further information about career choices. These are as follows:

AgCareerStart

If Year 12 students are considering taking a gap year in 2023, AgCareerStart may be a program they are interested in. Students have the opportunity to spend a year in an agricultural environment, typically a farm for a year, to live and work on the land, get paid and experience a different way of life. This opportunity is open to city and rural students alike.

Women in Engineering

The University of Queensland Women in Engineering would like to invite Year 11 and 12 women to attend a three-day holiday program event –

Spring into Engineering from Monday 26 September to Wednesday 28 September. The first two days will be held on campus with hands-on activities, and day three will be held offsite at an industry program partner organisation, Powerlink to experience a day in the life of an engineer!

There is a $50 event fee, including lunch each day and transport between UQ and Powerlink. All the information can be found using the button below, including the link to purchase tickets. UQ will communicate with registered students and their parent/guardian/s listed on the order form moving forward towards the event. For any further information, please contact we@eait.uq.edu.au.

Defence Jobs - Become a Submariner

And for something a little bit different, this has come from Defence Jobs Recruiting:

Being a submariner is one of the most unique and stable career opportunities in Australia.

Students can choose from various roles in leadership, trades, technical support, engineering, communications, logistics or catering. They will also receive a competitive salary from day one, allowances while serving at sea, on-the-job paid training, job security and get to work with some of the most sophisticated equipment in the world. There will also be ample downtime to socialise, play video games, keep fit, watch movies, be fed delicious food, explore the places you visit when at sea, and create memorable experiences with your mates every day.
