Mrs. Kathryn Searle - Head of Boarding

I was fortunate this week to attend the Australian Boarding Schools’ Association’s International Boarding Forum, held in Brisbane, with other Heads of Boarding across Australia.

Keynote speakers were the Principal of Pymble Ladies College, Dr. Kate Hadwen, who shared with us her journey from early beginnings as life on a property outside of Goondiwindi to teacher, Head of Boarding, Deputy Principal and Principal; and life coaches Chris Mills and Keith Abraham who steered us through the balancing act of boarding v personal and family life. We also had a morning with high-profile psychologist Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg, who navigated us through the current adolescent mental health issues and ways we can support our boarders’ wellbeing.

The forum concluded for us with an amazing presentation from Li Cunxin AO, who shared his inspirational journey of overcoming adversity from poverty in China to the world ballet stage, as told in his book and the film ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’.
