Communication

The College app is a convenient way to receive up-to-the-minute information about Sport at Clayfield. Information such as Trial dates, Training Schedules, Uniform Requirements, Wet Weather Updates and Competition Information can be found on this App. 

 

Please ensure you have downloaded the College app from the Apple or Google Play stores (search ‘Clayfield College’) and subscribe to the specific sports that are relevant to your child.

Primary Sport

Term 3 Primary Sport Assembly

Next Thursday 8 September, the College will acknowledge those students who have participated in Andrews Cup and Britton Shield Sports throughout Term 3, as well as placegetters from our Interhouse Carnivals. Families of those students receiving awards will be sent an invitation to attend this assembly which will start at 12:20 pm in the Assembly Hall.

 

Pre-Prep to Year 1 Games Day

The Pre-Prep to Year 1 Games Day will be held on Wednesday 14 September on the College Oval, from 11:00 am - 12:50 pm.

 

All students from Pre-Prep to Year 1 will be participating in this event and are to wear their sports uniform to school on this day. 

 

It is essential that your child also has their college play hat and a water bottle. Please ensure that both of these items are clearly named. We are looking forward to an enjoyable event, and spectators are very welcome. Please remember that it is a requirement to sign in at Reception on arrival at the College.

Primary Sport - Andrews Cup

Andrews Cup Gymnastics 

(Years 2 to 6)

Andrews Cup Gymnastics training continues on the following mornings:

  • Tuesday 6:45 am - 8:00 am                  
  • Wednesday 6:45 am - 8:00 am   (Compulsory session for all)
  • Friday 6:45 am - 8:00 am

Please check the College app to confirm which days your daughter is required to attend.

Start times must be adhered to so all students are present for a warm-up and stretching. Girls who have music rehearsals that clash with gymnastics training sessions will be dismissed from the Sports Centre at 7:30 am. Training absences must be communicated via email to Mrs. Richardson prichardson@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

 

Andrews Cup Basketball 

(Years 4 to 6)

The AC Basketball Team for 2022 will appear on the Primary Sports Noticeboard on Friday 2 September. Thank you to all girls who trialled. For those girls selected for the team-

Training will continue on the following days and times:                                            

  • Monday: 7:00 am - 8:00 am (Sports Centre)                         
  • Thursday: 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm (Sports Centre)                                      

Students must attend both sessions.

Andrews Cup Swimming

(Years 2 to 6)

Friday afternoon training continues from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm.

 

Reminder:

For those students who are swimming training as part of Andrews Cup on a Friday afternoon, please find the following rules that will be closely monitored by the staff of the College.

  • A staff member from Clayfield Swimming will collect the students from Circular Drive at 3:10 pm
  • Students will place their school bags in the pool gym for safekeeping as soon as they enter the facility
  • No devices are to be taken out of school bags
  • Students may have their snacks on the grass area before changing for training at 3:30 pm start

Primary Sport - Britton Shield

Aquathon

Training for aquathon will be on Fridays 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm, meeting at the College pool. The competition date is tbc, and the venue will be Clayfield College.

 

Cricket

Britton Shield Cricket training has commenced and will continue on the following dates for primary school boys:

 

Monday 5, 12 September; 10, 17 October 3:30pm-4:30pm (College Oval) Years 2-6

Monday 5, 12 September; 10, 17 October 4:30pm-5:00pm (College Oval) Years 4-6

 

Boys are to wear their Clayfield College PE uniform to all training sessions and bring a named water bottle as well as fruit and/or jelly in their lunch box, which they can eat during a designated break time in training. Years 2 to 3 parents, please ensure that they arrange to pick up their child from Circular Drive at 4:30 pm. Years 4 to 6, parents ensure that they pick up their child from Circular Drive at 5:00 pm and NOT Bayview Terrace.

 

If your son can not attend the above training dates, then please let Jon Woods jwoods@clayfield.qld.edu.au know before the end of the term as teams are being formed in the next few weeks. The competition date for Britton Shield Cricket is Friday 21 October. Clayfield College will be hosting the event but it will be off campus.

 

Swimming

Britton Shield swimming training will start on 5 October and a reminder that students must attend the Wednesday morning training session plus two other sessions throughout the week or one other if you are already attending the Friday aquathlon training session:

Monday mornings 6:45 am - 7:45 am
Wednesday mornings 6:45 am - 7:45 am (Compulsory)
Thursday afternoons 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Friday afternoons 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

 

Training will continue through Term 4 and into Term 1 2023.

 

Sports Assembly

Parents are invited to the end-of-term Sports Assembly this Thursday 8 September from 12:20 pm - 12:50 pm. Award recipients for the soccer carnival will be presented at this time.

Secondary Sports - QGSSSA

Badminton

 SIGN-ON 

All students must sign-on via Parent Lounge to participate in the QGSSSA Badminton Program. 

 

Please note, parents/caregivers must complete the sign-on prior to the first training session. The new sign-on procedure for sport and activities ensures accurate records are kept for all registered participants.

  • Click 'accept' (right hand side of the screen)

All students will be transported by bus to Sam’s Badminton Arena for training. Students must be collected by parents/caregivers/boarding house staff from Sam’s at the conclusion of training.

QGSSSA Athletics Championships

‘Save the Date’ 

Date: Thursday 15 September. 

Venue: QSAC 

All Students in Years 7 to 12 will be spectating at the 2022 QGSSSA Athletics Championships. The Athletics team is looking forward to you bringing your CC Spirit! 

Departure: 8:30 am 

Return: 3:10 pm 

Lunch will be provided to all spectators. Further details to follow.

Tiana Kritzinger

2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

Tiana has wrapped up her 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships campaign in Honolulu, Hawaii, matching stroke for stroke in a battle for second place in the 1500m Freestyle.

Tiana, who had been within striking distance of the leaders, sprinted home to finish with the bronze medal. Well done Tiana!

Leila Johnson

2022 Australian Cross Country Championships – Oakbank Racecourse, Adelaide

Leila represented the Queensland Athletics team and competed in the Women 4k U17 and finished a credible 19th place (67 competitors). 

 

Poppy

2022 Australian Short Course Championships in Sydney

Poppy competed in 6 events and was able to PB in many of her events and reached 3 Open Finals and 3 Age Finals.

Sports Awards Dinner 

16 November 2022 – Date Claimer

The College has confirmed Cloudland, the Rose Room as the venue for this year's Sports Awards Dinner. The cost will be around $75 per person for a two-course sit-down meal with cake for dessert. Further details will be released closer to the date.

Volleyball Academy

Mondays 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Any students who are interested in joining the Volleyball Academy, please read the attached information and application form and return to the Sports Office.  All sessions occur in the College PE centre.

Tennis Programs

Other than running our Andrews Cup and QGSSSA Tennis programs, Lifetime Tennis also offers personal tennis coaching, squads and hotshots. If you would like to find out more and enrol your child in tennis, please see the below tennis program flyer. 

Friends of Sports Group

The next Friends of Sports Meeting will be held here at the College from 6:30 pm in the Boardroom on Thursday 8 September. All parents from Prep to Year 12 are welcome to attend. Please contact Mr. John Robbins should you wish to attend via Zoom and a link will be sent through. 

 

The full schedule for meetings is listed below and these meetings are for anyone interested in supporting the endeavours of the College’s Sports Department. Your assistance will support Britton Shield, Andrews Cup and QGSSSA sports within the College. Meetings are generally held in the College Boardroom.
