Week 3 of Term 4 is here already. This term is flying by and the students have been busy completing practical components on Farm.  Students completed their theory last Friday for the harvest competency and when it stops raining (hopefully) we will get stuck into harvest.

During the last two weeks the students have bailed and carted 1400 small squares and 320 large round bales in between the 22mm of rain we had. We would like to thank all those involved in the hay process for your great work ethic as it is not the greatest job. Over the next two weeks, the Year 11 students will be completing their practical components of their First Aid unit. They will also be down the shearing shed finishing the shearing of the lambs.

Uniform

Students have now been reminded on Farm numerous times about the expectation of being dressed in correct work clothes and PPE required for Farm. As per the College Guidelines, I have outlined a few major ones below that have been communicated in morning roll call for students to follow. Compass reports will be written from now on.

Dress Standards & Safety Equipment

  • All students are required to wear high-viz farm clothing as per clothing list.
  • College farm work clothes consist of neat clean trousers and shirts, jumper or College jacket, free from tears or rips.
  • Broad brimmed College bucket hats are compulsory during Term One and Four.
  • Long hair needs to be always tied back and if necessary, secured with a hair net.
  • Students must bring their own personal issue safety glasses to farm.
  • Sunscreen is provided at the farm workshop and students are encouraged to make regular use of it.
  • No mobile phones on Farm (students).  The phone will be confiscated and stored in the College safe for 5 school days.

Weekend Duty

I would just like to thank all those students who have completed or nominated for their 2 weekend Farm duties for this year and next. The rosters are complete and if you are unsure on what date you have been given, please get in contact with Mrs Corsini.  Just a reminder that swapping a weekend roster is strongly discouraged but in the event this situation arises students must give a valid reason, two weeks notice to Mrs Corsini, and find another student to replace them.  Students have access to the roster through Daily Notices, Farm noticeboard, College Chatter and via email. Parents can access the information in the fortnightly College Chatter.  There have been a few students who have not been able to complete their rostered weekends - please don't leave it too late to rebook or you will be back in Term 4 of 2022 alone completing weekend duties (no one wants this).

Third Party Reports

I have spoken to the Year 11 students in RTO Class in regards to third party reports being completed over the summer break. Please get in contact with Mrs Corsini if you have the opportunity to complete some third-party reports over the summer break. The third-party reports are evidence towards the students Certificate II in Agriculture practicals. I will send what the requirements are via email. We also need video evidence that supports the paperwork. I recommend getting a USB and putting all evidence on the USB each night or week to bring back to the College on return.  If any students are interested in completing these reports, please see Mrs Corsini before the end of term.

Upcoming Events

We wish Mr Laird and all the students competing in the upcoming events at Dinninup Show & Boddington Show the best of luck. Results will be announced in the next College Chatter 🙂
