From the Principal

Matt Dowell

Principal

Week 3 has been another highly successful week and I would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all students. Our Year 11 ATAR students have had a highly successful study and industry camp, the first aid courses for Year 11's are progressing well and we are all looking forward to Friday's Tomorrow Man / Tomorrow Woman workshops which all Year 11's will be participating in. Thank you to our fantastic P&C who have committed funds to subsidise 50% of the total cost of these workshops.

The next few weeks are most certainly filled with lots of curricular and extra curricular activities. Our incoming Student Council are channelling their energy and enthusiasm toward organising events and activities such as a Staff v Student Basketball afternoon and a Christmas-themed Special Dinner where staff are invited to attend to celebrate the year and raise funds for a worthy cause. Planning for a 'Blue Tree' project is underway with our students very keen to raise awareness for mental health (particularly in the regions) with this project commencing with our outgoing Student Council. Interviews for 2022 Head Boy/Girl  will be conducted next week and announced at the Year 11 Ceremony on the last day of the term.

School Vaccine Program

The Health Department will commence the round 1 COVID-19 vaccine administration on Monday next week (1st November). Thank you to the students and parents who have returned the consent form to the front office in preparation. Please get any late forms in to the office ASAP. The second dose will be administered on Thursday of the last week of school (25th November).

Uniforms

As an operating farming enterprise and trade training facility, PPE and student uniform requirements are non-negotiable. We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of industry expectations and WHS legislation and ask students to take the lead with meeting these requirements and imbedding these habits in their daily practice. Our Class uniform requirements also reinforce a high standard of personal and professional presentation and reflects our College's extensive history of taking pride in how we are presented. I ask that students do not modify the College uniform (e.g. tailoring the College jackets into vests) as they are not permitted to be worn at school. The Student Council will be presenting a proposal to the College Board in regards to possibly adding a high-vis vest for Farm to the uniform list.

Agricultural Education Update

Sally Panizza, Director of Agricultural Education has provided the College with an update on some initiatives and projects the Directorate is currently working on, including the revision of the student selection process and Residential Status Review process. I encourage you to read the article attached below.

Public School Review

This year our College has been preparing for the recurring 'Public School Review' process. All WA public schools are required to undergo this process and conduct a thorough self-assessment of their performance against 6 'domains'. Although this is a significant undertaking for our staff, it is a humbling and rewarding process as it highlights just how fantastic our College is, the opportunities on offer and of course our students' success stories. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the planning and also to the P&C, College Board and Ag Advisory members who are volunteering their time to participate in the site visit occurring on the 2nd November.

A huge congratulations to Charlotte Crossen who has been announced as a finalist for the prestigious VET Beazley Medal for her achievements in VET.
