Leadership Centre

Curriculum

Selamat Pagi,

It was a wonderful week in the Leadership Centre and it was great to see so many smiling faces on Thursday and Friday whilst learning onsite at school! The teachers are feeling incredibly proud of the students' efforts throughout Remote Learning and we look forward to being back at school full-time! We want to say another thank you to all families for their continued support and encouragement as we transition back to full-time onsite schooling.

To begin the week, students participated in online assessments with their teachers and it was pleasing to see just how smooth the process all was. Thank you to all families who booked through Calendly so promptly and supported their child/ren to log into Zoom at the right time. Students impressed teachers by showcasing their reading comprehension skills within these sessions and it is clear that students and families really understood the purpose and value of the time spent on Zoom completing these assessments.

It was an incredibly busy week with all students very eager to display their public speaking skills! Throughout this term in Remote Learning, students engaged in writing tasks and small group teacher conferences dedicated to preparing their speech on the topic ‘What happiness means to me…’. Everyone in the Leadership Centre (both staff and students) were very grateful for the opportunity to conduct speeches in person at school. Students presented their speeches to their classes, which were recorded and uploaded to Seesaw along with a highlighted assessment rubric. Students used their rubric to self-reflect on their progress, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement. In addition to all students presenting their speech, each class selected a representative to present their speech to the entire cohort, using Zoom as a way to connect with other classes. Congratulations to Aarav (5/6W), Conrad (5/6C), Chris (5/6SB), Sukriti V (5/6B) and Lily (5/6B) for being selected to represent their classes.

In Mathematics, students completed assessments related to a range of mathematical concepts and also spent time analysing some very important data! Each year, all government students in Years 4-6 complete the Attitudes to School Survey which is conducted by the Department of Education. Each year, when we receive the data, the staff work together to analyse it. But who better to analyse the data, than the students themselves?! Students in the Leadership Centre worked in small groups to carefully view and interpret the data, identifying their noticings, wonderings, celebrations and areas of improvement. With this, students brainstormed and recorded ways in which the school

community could address some of these areas of improvement. It was impressive to see how mature the students' attitude was to this task and they worked collaboratively to form some great ideas about what can be improved at MPRPS. The students' findings will now be analysed by the teaching staff, including the Wellbeing School Improvement Team and the Leadership Team. What a tremendous effort!

In Wellbeing sessions, students continue to focus on Topic 7 of the Respectful Relationships curriculum, Gender & Identity. Students were offered the opportunity to create an ‘I am…’ poem, inspired by the English Poet John Clare, where they identified and elaborated on their character strengths and could create a self-portrait with symbols and images representing their unique identity around them. It is clear that students very much enjoyed celebrating the diversity of people within our school community.

Terima Kasih,

The Leadership Centre Team
