DEPUTY PRINCIPAL LEARNING AND TEACHING

INTRODUCTION

This term has at times been difficult, but I am constantly impressed with the resilience shown by students and the commitment of our staff to get through this and maintain learning outcomes.

I would like to thank students and teachers alike for the way they have undertaken learning this term and we look forward to Term 4, when we should be able to operate in a more ‘normal’ learning environment.

In the meantime, as we approach the end of Term 3, I trust that students will finish off the term strongly and then enjoy the holidays that are rapidly approaching.

PARENT STUDENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Student Teacher Interviews will occur on Tuesday October 12 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Given the current uncertainty around what will and what will not be permitted in terms of meetings we will organise these as virtual interviews. More information about making bookings for these interviews will be distributed via SkoolBag during the last week of term.

GENERAL ACHIEVEMENT TEST (GAT)

The General Achievement Test (GAT) has been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday October 5, 2021 from 10:00am to 1:15pm. Further information in regards to the GAT can be found here

WHY MICROSOFT TEAMS?

Microsoft Teams provides a more secure online video meeting format. With Microsoft Teams, teachers have tighter control over who can access the online video lesson.

Students can only use their school email address to access each session, which means we can always identify who is in the session. There are also other security features which makes Microsoft Teams a more secure environment, including the ability to monitor what is said in the chat function of Microsoft Teams.

For the above reasons, we have encouraged our teachers to transition from Zoom to Microsoft Teams for online classes.

Any technical issues please contact Inttec: inttec@sjcmda.vic.edu.au.

TEACHER MOVEMENT IN YEARS 9 AND 10

Due to staff movement, there will be teacher changes for some classes at Years 9 and 10 for Term 4.

The affected classes are primarily in the Humanities Learning Area, with one Religious Education class also being affected. The classes will be covered by very experienced teachers, including Mrs Andrea Chamberlain, Miss Paula Cox, Mrs Jodie Birnie, and Father Matthew Thomas.

Rest assured that the college will endeavour to do everything possible to ensure the students are not disadvantaged in their learning opportunities. We have been very fortunate to have been able to cover the affected classes with such experienced and capable teachers.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the relevant Learning Area Facilitator, Mrs Andrea Chamberlain and Mrs Nella O’Brien, or myself directly.

Deputy Principal, Learning and Teaching
