Australian Mathematics Competition

Results are in! Students from ASC performed outstandingly well in this year's Australian Mathematics Competition. We had 61 ASC students taking part in the AMC, plus another six students joining us from Armidale City Public School. All of these students are talented and motivated young mathematicians; and all are to be commended on their effort and on the fine results achieved.

Flynn Hess (Year 9) received one of the AMC Prizes, earning results in the top 0.3% of participants within NSW.

Catalina Cox (Year 10) was in the top 1% of participants and received a High Distinction.

Given that students taking part in the AMC are generally only the strongest and most confident at mathematics across the state, these are high achievements indeed!

Tuckwell Scholar

Congratulations to Jordan King (Year 12) on his successful application for the prestigous Tuckwell Scholarship at the Australian National University. Jordan will be commencing his studies at ANU in February 2022, with plans to focus on a science-based pathway.

With a total scholarship package valued at more than $140 000 to fully fund five years of university study, Tuckwell Scholars are selected on the basis of intellect, character, leadership and their commitment to Australia.

Friends of Zainab Senior Secondary Scholarship

Ishan Jarallah (Year 11) has been awarded the Friends of Zainab Senior Secondary Scholarship as part of the Public Education Foundation’s Proudly Public awards programme. The application was an independent process, with Ishan approaching referees - Renee Thomas (Teacher at the Armidale IEC) and Dr Kerry Dunne (the Jarallah family’s refugee volunteer) - for statements of commendation.

The scholarship supports public school students from a refugee background through their HSC years and is provided through the Scholarship Fund of the Public Education Foundation. The Foundation works in collaboration with schools, communities, business and government to help students achieve their full potential, while enhancing the value and reputation of public education.

The Friends of Zainab Scholarship comprises $1,000 for Year 11 and another $1,000 for Year 12. Ishan plans to use the scholarship to support her in her studies, including the purchase of a laptop.

Warmest congratulations, Ishan!
