Mrs. Karen Gordon - Director of Co-curricular Music / Coordinator of Strings

Over the holidays we had a few exciting musical experiences that involved our Music Staff and Students.

Mrs Karen Gordon (Director of Co-Curricular Music) and Ms Ysolt Clark (Upper Brass Specialist) performed in the orchestra at the NRL Grand Final last weekend. Ms Kathryn McKee performed in the orchestra for the Stage Musical ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ held at the Queensland Performing Arts Complex.

Hannah McDonald (Year 10) performed as principal Viola in the Queensland Youth Orchestra Mahler concert and in the Queensland Youth Orchestra String Quartet at the Post Concert function. She then rehearsed and performed with the Queensland Youth Symphony Chamber Orchestra at the Artology Fanfare Open Concert.

The following students were selected to attend the State Honours Ensemble Program:

Connie Crowther, Alice Gardner, Annabelle Goninon, Demi-Ann Klocek, Zoe Lau, Allegra Pollack and Alexandra Vincent

Unfortunately, due to the latest COVID restrictions and the enormity of the event, rehearsals after day one were cancelled and the event has been postponed.

Fortunately, the Australian Honours Ensemble Program was able to go ahead at the Conservatorium of Music, with Hannah McDonald playing Viola.

On Wednesday 6 October, 59 Clayfield College Primary students headed to Somerville House to participate in the Combined Junior School Music Festival. This was a valuable experience for our students and it was lovely to witness not only the musical engagement but the newly formed friendships and collaborative interactions with our fellow PMSA school, Somerville House. The day concluded with a concert, where students from each ensemble (Strings, Band and Choir) were able to showcase their work.

Congratulations to Do Hee Lee (Year 6) who was awarded an A (Honours) for her Fourth Grade AMEB Violin exam early last term.
