Winter Sports

Our winter fixture season concluded with some very competitive games and a combined sports celebration at the College. The individual sports captains combined to plan and create a fun-filled afternoon of food, music, jumping castles and some social tennis. It was a great way to finish the season, thank the coaches and coordinators and send our Year 12s off with a bang in their final season of QG winter sport for Clayfield.

A huge congratulations to a number of our volleyball teams, Opens and 10A who finished in the top four of games played this season, and in particular, our Year 8A team who went through undefeated finishing at the top of the table for the 6 games played. The COVID interruption to the season was unfortunate as these teams were going very well this year. It will be great to see how they go in 2022 and whether they can move up from where they finished this year.

Athletics

The final day of Term 3 was a beautiful spring day, perfect conditions for the QG Athletics event whether competing or cheering our team on which I am sure helped us achieve 3rd place in Percentage Cup. What an amazing achievement, one our girls and our coaches should be very proud of. And if there was a prize for cheering, our girls would have won that hands down! Once again, our HUGE school spirit was proudly and loudly on display for all to see and hear! And didn’t our girls cheer! Whether on the track, in the field or shouting from the grandstands, our girls shone, ending the athletics season in fantastic style.

This amazing result was possible due to the efforts of our girls at training and the quality of coaching provided. 31 girls broke at least one of their PB’s in an event and 5 girls broke 2 or more.

Huge congratulations must go to a number of girls who did exceptionally well, not only in terms of PB’s but in terms of the field of competitors they were up against. Congratulations to the following 3 girls who managed to finish in the top 3 in one or more of their events.

Danielle Jones (Year 9) - 2nd in javelin and discus

Mia Geere (Year 8) - 2nd in high jump

Ema Costello (Year 7) - 3rd in discus

Term 4 Sports

The badminton and softball boot camps occurred on the Monday public holiday this week with the majority of most teams in attendance. Despite the heat, the girls did exceptionally well and as a result, go into their up-coming fixtures a little more game-ready after dusting off the holiday cobwebs. A huge thank you must be given to Jo Rogers who is the Head Coach of both sports and did an amazing job putting the camps together and running them on the day. Jo’s amazing energy, passion and joy of coaching certainly shone through to make the day more enjoyable and worthwhile for all those in attendance. A huge thank you also to the Sports Support Group who funded the morning tea, BBQ lunch and cold icy poles, your contribution to the day was certainly very much appreciated by all in attendance.

AFL will make its grand debut into the QGSSSA sporting program in term 4. We have been fortunate enough to organise a 6-week program with Queensland AFL which will culminate in 2 Gala Days for secondary students and 1 Gala Day for primary students. Full details of the introductory program can be found on the College App and Croc Board.
