Japanese
こんにちは!
Konnichi wa!
The majority of Term 3 and the beginning of this term saw us return to online learning. It was fantastic to see so many students continue to engage in their Japanese learning from their homes and at school. The remote learning period allowed students to revise the learning that they have done in class and build on their skills and understanding to a greater level.
Preps
Students in Prep practised learning about colours, shapes and size in Japanese. They also read along to a Japanese version of the picture story book, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ to learn about some different animal names in Japanese.

Grade One
Students in Grade One have been working hard to revise over one-stroke and two-stroke hiragana. Hiragana is one of the writing systems in Japanese. It was great to see students participating in different activities to help them to remember the sounds of each of the characters.
One-Stroke Hiragana
く(ku)、し(shi)、そ(so)、つ(tsu)、て(te)、の(no)、ひ(hi)、へ(he)、る(ru)、ろ(ro) and ん(n)
Two-Stroke Hiragana
い(i)、う(u)、え(e)、こ(ko)、す(su)、ち(chi)、と(to)、ぬ(nu)、ね(ne)、み(mi)、め(me)、ゆ(yu)、よ(yo)、ら(ra)、り(ri)、れ(re) and わ(wa).
Grade Two and Three
Students in Grade Two and Three have been revising over all of the hiragana they have learnt so far, including one-stroke, two-stroke and three-stroke characters. On our return to class this term, students will learn the handful of remaining hiragana characters, which will allow them to be able to read and write simple Japanese words.
Three-Stroke Hiragana
あ (a)、お (o)、か (ka)、け (ke)、さ (sa)、せ (se)、に (ni)、は (ha)、や (ya)、を (wo)、ま (ma)、む(mu) and も(mo).
I’m looking forward to our return to the classroom in Week 5 where we will be able to continue our much-anticipated Japanese learning!
Until next time,
さようなら Sayounara (Goodbye)
