Grade One

General:

Each of our wonderful Grade 1 students have blown us away with the effort they have applied in their learning activities, both off-site and in the classroom setting. We are definitely seeing students who are steadily preparing for Grade 2. All of the Grade 1 teachers are extremely proud of the fantastic return to school that each student made on Thursday and Friday. Students were eagerly welcoming their friends and peers, modelling their kindness and consideration as students adjusted back into their classrooms. The resilience and maturity displays how each of them have used the challenges and interruptions in a positive and empowering way. We are so excited to have our students back in the classroom and eagerly await Week 5!

English:

The Grade 1 students have made a wonderful start to English in Term 4. They began the term writing some different forms of poetry which highlighted their rhyme and alliteration skills. Students also focused on their wellbeing through some thoughtful Gratitude Journal entries. We have now begun to explore the structure of procedural texts, which provide instructions in a simple step-to-step format. Our students have already delivered many wonderful writing pieces, showcasing their understanding of this concept. In reading, students have shown a great interest in learning the diverse ways vision and hearing impaired people communicate and read. It has been enjoyable to see them use the Braille alphabet to write their weekly spelling words and communicate their feelings and emotions through the use of sign language.

Maths:

In Grade 1, students have been learning about the connections between concepts through our Mathematician Bootcamp and Dot Art Show unit. They have also continued to familiarise themselves with time, exploring the features of analogue and digital clocks which represent both half past and o’clock times. Our students have been reinforcing and applying probability language in classifying the likelihood of different events occurring. Students have also displayed their increasing awareness of data collection and representation through their detailed M&M’s graphs. The Grade 1 teachers have been impressed with the effort of our mathematicians and in the number of our students actively seeking challenges!

Integrated Studies:

This   term  in     Integrated   Studies,   Grade      1 students   are  exploring the  concept   of

Creativity. Students have been immersed in various activities, both off-site and in the classroom, that encourage them to use critical thinking and tap into their unique creativity. Students are currently in the design process stages of investigating and generating ideas to create an invention each. Over the next few weeks, students will be involved in the production stage of their inventions, where they will design using sustainable materials through the concepts of science and art. The students have come up with amazing ideas and we are looking forward to seeing these ideas come to life!
