OSHC News

Hi all,

Andrew here, hope you are are feeling fresh and ready for some fun times coming into the new (last!) term. We certainly had a lot of fun in the holidays - with the highlight probably our excursion to Hazelwood Park & meeting lots of new friends there!

I have a really important notice that I wanted to get to you as soon as possible with as much notice as we could muster so that your end-of-year planning and start of next year is a breeze. Our Vacation Care Period will run twice - the December Vacation Care will run from Monday the 13th of December to Wednesday the 22nd of December. Normally we only run the week before, but due to the nature of this extended holiday we wanted to push it as close to Christmas as we could.

Then our OSHC will be closed for just under three and a half weeks, returning to open January Vacation Care on the 17th of January. We will run for two weeks until the 28th of January. We close for three weeks over the new year to give our OSHC staff a well-needed break, and this year many of our qualified workers are taking this time to go interstate or visit family further afield. Keep an eye out for the program - which will arrive later this term!

See you all soon - Andrew

A Note from Emily

Welcome back to school for Term 4! I know for many of you over the school break, work has not stopped. I hope, in all the busyness of work that you have found some moments of rest.

This term's theme is 'Creative'. Such a great topic to finish off the school year! I am constantly blown away by the creative minds of Uraidla Primary School, including students, staff and parents. Everyone has a creative flame in them, some may appear like a raging fire, some may seem like just a small flicker. But, we all possess the ability to be creative. This past week I finished up my latest Art Club project creating affirmation or kindness stones to put into the community. It has been a beautiful project to complete and one that we won't know the impact it has. Running Art Club at school stretches my creativity. I am constantly trying to think of the next thing that could be done and somewhat new and creative for all students. My favourite part of running this group is connecting with the students and watching them grow and stretch their creative minds. I ask you this, what does creativity mean to you and how could your creative flame encourage others?

If you or someone you know is feeling a bit uneasy coming to the end of the year, don't be afraid to reach out. Term 4 is a time of growing and transitions and for many, that can bring up a lot of uncomfortable feelings. This isn't limited to students, but families and staff as well. The worst thing you can do with these feelings is not to ask for help or talk to someone. If you are seeking some additional support at this time please feel free to have a chat with me. I know for me, it's nice to be given permission to ask for help, especially when going through uncomfortable circumstances. I would, however, strongly recommend you use the support networks around you. These are the people who walk life with you, they are easy to go to, and often are where you find a great sense of comfort. My encouragement for this week is to keep checking in with you this term.

Wishing you a creatively beautiful weekend!

Emily Morgan, Pastoral Care Worker

Cybersafety evening for families

Cyber Safety Parent Information Session at Uraidla Primary School

School Hall November 2 at 6:30pm

We would like to invite all parents and carers to a Cyber Safety information session which will be held in the school Hall (OSHC room) on November 2. The session will be run by Cybersafe Families, a provider endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner, to share the latest research and best practice approaches to online safety education for families. The evening session will provide parents and carers with strategies to help make home environments cyber safe. All Cybersafe Families presentations are delivered by professionals in the field, who have an understanding that all children are at different stages in their online journey. Parents are encouraged to bring their device to the presentation, and will be guided through how to check the security settings.

Notice of Annual General Meeting

We will be holding our AGM in term 4 this year, so that we are ready for the start of the new year. If you are interested in joining the Governing Council, please ring me at school on 8390 3209 so I am aware about your intention to nominate prior to the meeting.

The AGM will take place on Monday November 29 at 7pm in the staff room of the school, followed by our final Governing Council meeting of the year.

Materials and Services fees

Every year we are required to poll our community with regards to our Materials and Services fees. (See attachment below). Prior to this, we approve the recommended fees at a Governing Council meeting.  Parents / caregivers are invited to attend the meeting where the proposed Materials and Services Fees will be discussed or they can express their views in writing to the chairperson rather than attending the meeting. This will be 7:00pm on Monday 25 October 2021.

COVID restrictions

Please be aware of the ongoing current COVID restrictions:

Pick up and drop off

  • Please do not enter the school grounds, unless you have business that cannot be conducted by phone or email.
  • Wear a mask at all times when picking up or dropping off students. Please note that students in Primary School do not need to wear masks.
  • We will be asking students to leave the school grounds as soon as you are there to collect them, rather than playing in the playground after school.
  • Please remain in your car until students are dismissed at the end of the day at the bell at 3:10, and maintain the required physical distancing from others when picking up your child.

If you do need to enter the school grounds, please check in with the displayed QR code, wear a mask and keep the required distance from others. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please make contact through the SeeSaw app and they will ring you back. Meetings about children’s learning will take place online or over the phone until further notice.

We are now able to invite parents of the presenting class, and parents of students receiving awards, to attend our assemblies.  Please wear masks and QR code as above.

As always, students and staff must stay home if they are unwell. Please err on the side of caution.

Students are being asked to fill up their drink bottles from taps in preference to drinking directly from the taps, so please make sure they have a labelled bottle every day.
