Our Musical Stars

Last night we held our annual Music Showcase for parents of students learning Instrumental Music or choir.  It's always great to see what students can achieve in a short time, with a bit of passion and practice! Thank you to our wonderful music teachers:

Sarah Butler  ~ Instrumental Music and Band

Monica Klavins ~ Choir

Cara Bilstein ~ Piano and Drums

Oscar Sarre ~ Piano

Guy Phillips ~ Guitar

We also had a special performance from a new up and coming band - the UPS and Downs band... can you recognise any 'famous' people in the band? ;-)

Mural, bike racks and scooter racks completed

How exciting to see our new bike mural finished this week on the outside of the gym!  A huge thank you to artist (and UPS school mum of Oscar) Melanie Les for turning our students' imaginative drawings of bike riding into this wonderful artwork for us all to enjoy for many years to come.  Kids are loving the moveable parts too!

The mural and signs feature creations from the following students:

Melika Sparrow

Amelia George

Lila Braley

Henry Arthur

Finn Moore

Kyle Vince

Edith Comey

Ellie Schultz-Ohkubo

Kiara Ball

Anji Henschke

Oscar Les

Eleanor Schroeter

Tegan Hunter

In the last photo you can also see our new bike racks and scooter racks. The racks and mural were all made possible through a $10 000 Wheels Hub grant to encourage more children to ride to school, a joint venture from the Department for Education and The Department for Infrastructure and Transport. Thank you to Kelly Charlton for her successful grant application back in 2020 which has made this project possible!

We love the positivity stones students have made in Art Club with Emily, pictured on the front cover of this newsletter. You may find some around the school gardens or in Uraidla. We hope they bring a smile to your faces!

Molly's design now a logo!

You may remember last term hearing from us that our Year 7 student Molly Playford had won the Fox Creek bike park logo competition.  We were so excited to see the completed logo unveiled this week, inspired by Molly' design. Molly was given a prize pack of merchandise featuring her design and the artist's completed product.   We can all be proud every time we see the Fox Creek logo, knowing that it came from Uraidla Primary School. Thank you to Suzie Tume also for entering her students' work into the competition.

Class placement

As always it seems, Term 4 is already flying by. Soon we will be making decisions about which class students will be in next year.  At this stage it seems fairly certain that the class structure for next year will be:

Reception

Year 1/2

Year 1/2

Year 3/4

Year 3/4

Year 5/6

Teachers will soon be meeting to place students in their classes for next year, according to their learning needs. We work very hard to ensure that each child is placed according to their needs, and that classes are balanced. We will ask students in Reception to Year 3 to choose 5 friends they would be happy to be with next year, and although we can't guarantee it, we will attempt to make sure that they have one of these friends in their 2022 class.

If there is any information you think we need to know to help us in our class placement exercise, please email this through to me by the end of next week (Friday October 29).   Please understand that we cannot take requests for certain teachers; fortunately all of our teachers are brilliant!

Uraidla Show and School Closure

We are all so looking forward to the Uraidla Show this year on Sunday November 7.  Remember to go online to work out which Show entries you will do as a family!

https://uraidlashow.com

The day following the Show is a School Closure day, Monday November 8, so we can all recover from the festivities!

Remembrance day

On November 11 at 10:50 am we will be gathering around the monument at the Uraidla District Soldiers Memorial Park on Swamp Road for Remembrance Day. We will be holding a short ceremony to honour those who have fought in wars to keep us safe. If you would like to join us you are most welcome.

Emergency procedures

This past Tuesday October 19 we sent home a test text message stating "This is a test message from Uraidla Primary. Please do not reply."  This is to check that our emergency messaging system is working, and that all of our families are receiving text messages through this platform. This is how we would communicate with you in the case of a bushfire or other emergency.

Please let the front office know if you did NOT receive this text message on Tuesday, and we will update our records. Thank you for helping us to keep everyone safe!

Cybersafety evening

Don't forget to book in for our parent cybersafety evening coming up on 2 November.

This has been organised for the parents of Uraidla Primary based on parent requests over the past couple of years.  The school is covering most of the cost; tickets are only $5.

We're so lucky to have an opportunity to learn from experienced parents how to keep our children safe online.  Bring your devices and the presenters will help you to maximise your settings.  See the School News section for info on how to register.

Plus a bonus- free wine tasting after!

Disco photos!

Last newsletter I promised I'd include some photos of the disco. I hope these photos convey the energy of the night!  Thank you again to the Parents and Friends and especially to Amanda Preskett for all of her hard work in organising the disco for our students, and for the P and F members who supervised.

The term is already flying by. Everyone is very busy but having fun, and enjoying the lovely weather. Happy Term 4 everyone!  Margie
