Literacy
In Literacy this term, students are analysing the text structure and language features of Dreamtime Stories. They will be analysing character traits, settings, conflicts, solutions and meaning/moral. Students will be exposed to a range of Dreamtime texts, and will have many opportunities to write their own. They will continue to follow the 5 stages of writing and explore the many different language features included in this genre. Students will also be exploring authors craft while focusing on the comprehension strategies of summarising and inferring. Students will continue achieving their reading and writing goals.
Numeracy
In Maths, students will be developing their place value skills. Students will be using a variety of problem-solving skills to identify and continue number patterns. Students will also model, expand, compare and rename numbers. This term, students will make, represent or identify the value of a number using a range of materials or manipulatives. This will include focus areas such a measurement, money, angles and mapping.
Social and Emotional Learning
In SEL this term, students will be exploring emotional responses in a range of social situations. They will be recognising their personal strengths and will identify skills they would like to develop. They will discover strategies for coping with difficult situations and learn ways to persist with tasks when faced with a challenge. Students will learn how to adapt their approach when first attempts are not successful and will continue to develop their skills of patience, responsibility and self-control.
Inquiry
In Inquiry this term, students will learn to understand what life was like for Aboriginal and all Torres Strait Island People before the arrival of Europeans. They will research the connection between Aboriginals and Torres Islander people and the environment, including land management and practices culture and identities. Students will also explore the importance of Totems in the lives of the Aboriginals and Torres Islander Peoples.
