Numeracy
During Term 3 in Numeracy, students will continue investigations in place value and counting patterns through games and activities. This will support the consolidation of their addition and subtraction skills and number facts. The emphasis during numeracy sessions will be to develop sound understandings using concrete materials and being able to explain strategies used and explore alternative methods to problem solve. With guidance by their teachers, students will continue to use the RekenReks to develop their knowledge of the different ways we can make numbers from one to twenty.
We will also explore the topics of 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional Shapes and Statistics and Probability, as well as measurement through practical activities.
Literacy
During Term 3 in Literacy, students will be exposed to Indigenous Australian dreamtime stories, learning about their origins and purpose. Students will be analysing the structure of poems and identify the patterns within poems. Students will focus on the comprehension strategies of persuading and point of view and inferring.
Students will continue to create written recounts of their experiences. Students will also learn how to write a dreamtime story by listening to and retelling a dreamtime story. They will learn how to take up a point of view on a relatable topic, write about their point of view and give reasons for their point of view, using emotive language as a persuasive technique. Students will also learn how to use the structure and patterns within poems to write their own original poems. Using the knowledge taught during the term, students will work through the 5 stages of writing, Planning, Drafting, Revising, Editing and Publishing to produce their own writing pieces. Students will celebrate their writing successes by sharing their published pieces with an audience.
Inquiry
During Term Three in Inquiry, students will be exploring a unit titled ‘Celebrating Differences’. Students will explore the different communities celebrate their culture, identifying how some are the same and some are the different. Students will learn about Indigenous Australian culture and NAIDOC week. They will participate in a range of experiences including using clapping sticks and Aboriginal symbols to learn an Indigenous Australian song and create visual stories. Students will also participate in a rotation of cultural activities, such as learning different cultural dances and songs and making Honey Joys and Diwali Lantern Crafts.
