STEM Report
Welcome back to another term in STEM, I hope everyone was able to enjoy a relaxing break. Term 3 brings with it a new opportunity for learning and this term students will be undertaking a variety of new topics from Victorian School's Science Curriculum. Lets have a look what each year level will be up to...
Prep: Students will be exploring the world of living things and learning to identify key features. They will investigate the basic needs of plants/animals and use their knowledge to develop their understanding of caring for pets.
Grade 1/2: This term, students will be learning about changes that happen in their daily lives. They will investigate observable changes that occur to objects, landscapes and seasons. As well as exploring how changes occur daily or over longer periods of time.
Grade 3: Students in Grade 3 will be exploring how the Earth's rotation affects daily patterns such as, day and night. They will investigate the relative sizes of the sun, earth and moon and use modelling to help explain their movements.
Grade 4: This term, students in Grade 4 will be learning about the life cycles of living things. They will investigate the relationships that occur in ecosystems and explore the dependency that some species have on each other.
Grade 5: Students will be exploring the exciting world of electricity. They will identify components of simple circuits and develop their understanding of how electricity flows around a complete circuit.
Grade 5/6: Students in Grade 6 will be exploring the concepts of chemical and physical changes. They will identify common physical changes between states of matter and investigate the irreversible changes that are caused by combustion.
Upcoming Events
Also this term, keep an eye out for our annual Science Week celebration. This year the theme is, Innovation: Making life better. Students will have the opportunity to solve a real life problem using their ingenuity and quest for innovation. I cant wait, stay tuned for more information!
