We hope this newsletter finds you all in good spirits. As we progress through Week 4 of Term 3, we have some exciting events and activities lined up for our Year 3 and 4 students.

Book Week Reminder:

Just a friendly reminder that Book Week is fast approaching! On Monday 21st August, we invite all Year 3 and 4 students to come dressed as their favourite book characters. We encourage creativity and imagination! Additionally, students can bring the book that inspired their costume so they can share their love for reading with their classmates. Our students will have the opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading through a series of exciting events, including author visits, a book-themed dress-up day, and engaging reading activities.

MS Readathon:

We are delighted to inform you that our school will be participating in the MS Readathon this year. The MS Readathon is a fantastic initiative that encourages children to read as many books as possible throughout the month. Students can seek sponsorship from family and friends for the number of books they read. Not only will they be fostering a love for reading, but they will also be contributing to a great cause, as all funds raised will support those living with multiple sclerosis.

If you would like your child to participate in the MS Readathon and represent Vermont Primary School, you can register your child by simply heading to the Readathon website: https://www.msreadathon.org.au/join/VermontPrimarySchool

- Select ‘Register’

- Click ‘My children to read’

- Fill in the contact details of a parent/guardian

- Enter your child’s details and add Vermont Primary School

- Follow prompts until registration is complete.

**A reminder to not write your child’s surname. Their first name, or first name and surname initial, and their grade are all that is required (e.g. Jimmy S 4JS).

If you have any queries regarding this year’s MS Readathon, please feel free to contact:

Science Week:

We are thrilled to announce that Science Week is just around the corner! During Week 9 of this term, our students will explore various scientific concepts through hands-on experiments and demonstrations. From Monday 4th September to Friday 8th September, we will be celebrating Science Week at VPS. Three special events for students and families have been planned.

On Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 ‘Scientists’ will be leading three science-related activities for the rest of the school’s students to participate in. Between recess and lunch, the students will move with their class between three different activities across the whole school, to experience different aspects of science, such as circuits, chemical reactions and the making of bath bombs!

Thursday of science week will bring an amazing incursion to VPS – the Jollybops Science Show. More information and payment details are now available on Qkr!. Payment is due for all students by Thursday 31st August.

Science week concludes with our whole school Science Expo on Friday 8th September. Parents and carers are invited to come and experience each year level’s exploration of science and associated displays. The Expo will be open for families to view from 3 pm until 5 pm in the school stadium.

Grade 3 Inquiry Rotations

Our Grade 3 Inquiry Rotations have been a huge success.  The students have been enjoying learning new skills and being involved in creative experiences.

Maths Family Night:

Mark your calendars! Our highly anticipated Maths Family Night is scheduled for Thursday 31st August. This fun-filled evening fosters a positive attitude towards mathematics and creates opportunities for families to engage in math-related activities together. From problem-solving challenges to interactive games, everyone is sure to have a great time! More information and RSVP details will be sent out closer to the date.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to another fantastic week of learning and growth for our Year 3 and 4 students.

This week the Year 4 students created shadow puppets before retelling a fairytale to their class with shadow puppetry.
