We will be discussing wheels for our Inquiry topic this term and will celebrate with a wheels parade in the morning on Wednesday 9th August! Students are encouraged to bring along a toy that has wheels (bike, scooter, pram, remote control car etc). If you wish to hang around and watch, we would love to see you there! If it’s looking like rain, we will postpone, so please keep an eye on your email for updates.
Please ensure that students have a blue Vermont top on underneath their jumpers and jackets whilst at school. The classrooms are heated and often students will remove layers throughout the day.
This term, we are learning about Toys. We will be learning about the history of toys and how they have changed over time. Also, we will be learning how toys move and get to plan and build our own toys. As part of this, we need lots and lots of boxes! Can you please start collecting boxes at home and bring them to school? These boxes can be any size – cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, paper towel rolls, soap boxes, biscuit boxes etc. Please do not send in any egg cartons, medicine boxes or toilet rolls.
To celebrate Book Week, VPS is holding a writing competition! Book Week’s theme this year is Read, Grow, Inspire and so, the theme for the writing competition is 'Grow'. Students might like to write about growing up, how a plant grows, a magic growing potion or use their imagination. The competition is optional and there will be a range of prizes for first, second and third place. First prize is a $50 book voucher!
Student’s need to bring their amazing writing to their teacher by 14th August to be in the running. Good luck – we can’t wait to read all of your amazing stories!
Bookings for interviews will be open on Sentral on August 20th. If you would like an interpreter to attend your interview, we can organise one. Please just let us know what date and time you have booked and what language.
From Monday 4th September to Friday 8th September, we will be celebrating Science Week at VPS. Three special events for students and families have been planned.
On Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 ‘Scientists’ will be leading three science related activities for the rest of the school’s students to participate in. Between recess and lunch, the students will move with their class between three different activities across the whole school, to experience different aspects of science, such as circuits, chemical reactions and the making of bath bombs!
Thursday of science week will bring an amazing incursion to VPS – the Jollybops Science show. More information and payment details are now available on Qkr!. Payment is due for all students by Thursday 31st August.
Science week concludes with our whole school Science Expo on Friday 8th September. Parents and carers are invited to come and experience each year level’s exploration of science and associated displays. The Expo will be open for families to view from 3pm until 5pm in the school stadium.
The preps were excited to spend time with their buddies last week down in the learning centre. The Year Six Buddie helped the preps create their beautiful 100 Days crowns.
The kids (and grown ups) had a ball with Ryan from Lego Masters this week! We made cars and had a challenge to build the tallest tower.
The Foundation students have been learning about place value the past couple of weeks. Students have been learning that 2 digit numbers are made up of tens and ones, bundling into groups of ten, building numbers using tens and ones, and recognising numbers represented with base ten blocks.
We've been learning how to collect information and represent it on a simple pictograph or bar graph.
This team we are doing Inquiry groups. Each teacher is running a lesson where they create different types of toys or participate in a different kind of play. Here are some photos of the students' flying toys, puppets, construction creations and messy play.
