From The Principals

Important updates from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook & Mrs Strachan

Welcome to this next edition of our fortnightly newsletter. What a busy few weeks we have had at Vermont Primary School, and a very special Coffee morning this morning! If you arrived at school via Nurlendi Road today, you would have seen the long line of people buying coffee! What a great way for our school community to connect and chat. A big thank you to the Community Network who organised this casual catch up, and we hope to see even more people at future events!

NAPLAN Congratulation

We are so proud of our Year 3 and 5 students who recieved thier NAPLAN assessment a few weeks ago. Once again, Vermont Primary School performed outstandingly, with a huge percentage of our students achieving exceptional levels of achievement in all areas of their learning.

We are so proud of each and every one of our students and the learning gains they make throughout the year. Learning looks different for every student, and not every achievement comes in the form of academic assessments, so it is important not to fall into a habit of equating success with academic outcomes only.

School Production in Term 4

We are super excited to announce our School Production, "What a Knight" being performed on Tuesday 31st of October and Wednesday 1st of November at Crossways Theatre.

Join Arthur and the knights of the Round Table on Camelot's craziest quest in this hilarious musical adventure!

A castle full of colourful characters join in the fun, including precocious princesses, a talking dragon - and not forgetting Merlin and his magic mirror! When young squire Watt Cobblers is expelled from Knight School, he reluctantly becomes Merlin's new apprentice. But trouble is never far away, and soon Camelot Castle collapses into chaos. Merlin has lost Excalibur, King Arthur's daughters have been kidnapped and his brave knights have turned into chickens. Watt and his new found friends Dusty Dragon and wayward Princess Alice set off on the biggest quest of their lives. But can our unlikely heroes rescue the princesses, save Excalibur and defeat the evil Black Knight? The answers are found in this magical production, where everyone is guaranteed to sing a lot, dance a lot and laugh a lot... at Camelot!

From this newsletter on, there will be a Production information page included. Please be sure to read this for updates on rehearsals, costumes, tickets and different ways parents and friends can help out!

100 Days of School

A massive congratulations to our young VPS superstars in Foundation, celebrating 100 days of school on Monday! These young people have grown so much in such a short space of time. After 100 days of learning they are 100 days more confident, 100 days more vibrant and 100 days more excited to be at school! Some students dressed as some super sophisticated senior citizens (including our teachers who looked a little (or a lot) older and wiser! We are so proud of our Foundation students, and can't wait to see what they get up to in the future!

Parent Opinion Survey

Each year, schools offer parents the opportunity to participate in the annual Parent Opinion Survey. This is an online survey that takes about 20 minutes and is available in a range of languages. The survey opens next Monday, and a link to access it will be sent out via Sentral. Please take the time to participate if you can. The feedback we get from the survey helps us to shape the direction of future decisions to improve outcomes for all students.

State Schools' Relief fund

State Schools' Relief is an organisation that has been operating in Victoria since 1930, providing support for families who are experiencing difficulties. If you are finding things a little tough at the moment, or know someone else who is, please read the information below and reach out to the school if you think we can help.

Parents attending school sporting events

At Vermont Primary School, we are so pleased that many of our school events are supported by parents and carers. We love having families be part of our special activities, and share in the joy of learning, participating and being part of a team. We remind everyone who is attending events, particularly sporting events in which children are participating that we expect exemplary levels of sportsmanship from our students, and that this is extended to our parents as well. Primary School sport is fun, exciting and can be competitive, but the main thing is to encourage all children who are participating. A big part of primary school sport is learning to accept both victory and defeat with humility. This message has far more impact when we have families who reiterate this same message and encourage all children to have-a-go, try their best and enjoy the experience.

School Instagram Page

We have set up a school managed Instagram page for people who use this media platform. This is a great way to celebrate some of the special things happening in our school. Please give us a follow!
