The Resilience Project

Martin Heppell's Visit

On Tuesday, the Student Council reps were very fortunate to be selected to have a special visit from Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project. Martin is an amazing man overflowing with energy and passion. He began by introducing himself to each of the students, asking them questions and reinforcing the message that they are awesome human beings.

Martin reminded the students that we all feel many different emotions throughout the day, but that when we are feeling negative ones, there are three things we can do that help to shift our mood into a more positive zone - exercise, listening to music and laughing. He encouraged our young leaders to be kind and to focus on the wonderful things they have, rather on what they don't have.

From start to finish the students had big smiles on their faces as Martin used humour and personal stories to share with them the importance of GEM - gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.

Your children may come home and talk about some of these First Nations wellbeing perspectives that are integrated into TRP curriculum. The PDF below shows some similar ways you could practise Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM) at home.
