Harmony Day

Term 3 started with one of the most awaited JMSS celebrations. This day is so special for teachers, students, principals and the JMSS community that it feels like a festival! Harmony Day is the only day at JMSS where everyone switches the usual navy blue and white for clothing of various colours and traditional dress of the multitude of cultures represented at JMSS. It was fabulous to see the explosion of colours, happiness, joy and music on this day. The several weeks in preparation for this event were worth it.

In the Harmony Day concert held after lunch, we went on a journey across the world and were able to cherish all the different cultures and traditions present within our school community. Cheered on by their fellow peers, we saw students dancing to all different styles, including Afghanistani, K-Pop, Indian Classical or Bollywood. We also have our fair share of singers, with people singing in languages such as Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese and Korean. Of course, let’s not forget when everyone at JMSS was up on their feet and dancing to the nut bush! As per the new tradition, we also saw Mr. Corkill, Mr. Chisholm and Mr. Mackinnon dance with our year 12s to the famous Bollywood song “Lungi Dance”!

In a world where many people don’t get to showcase their culture and traditions freely, we are very grateful to have an opportunity to share our heritage with others in the JMSS community. Congratulations to all the students that took part in our assembly, your performances were beautiful and a joy to cheer on to!  We hope that the adrenaline rush from this year’s Harmony Day has got you looking forward to Harmony Day 2024. This day would not have been possible without the continuous efforts of Mrs. Ryan, Mr. Palankay and the Harmony Day Committee. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible and ensured the success of the day. Harmony Day is truly a reflection of “Unity in Diversity” within our JMSS community. We look forward to next year’s Harmony Day!

Lots of Love,
