Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Congratulations to all of our students who represented the school at the recent Interschool Cross Country event at North Fremantle. Our school was victorious on the day. Thank you to Mr Truong and Mrs Foster for their efforts in preparing the team.

Our thanks to the large team of parents for their efforts providing food and running a cake stall on the evening of our Open Night.

Mr Kaloczy coordinated our keen group of music students who had the opportunity to perform in front of an audience on the stage.

Mrs Colkin and her team (Marg Wylie, Wendy Edmonds and Caitlin Waters) did a wonderful job setting up and running the Ashton Scholastic display. Sales totalled nearly $1700 with $600 returned to the school through free resources for the library. Our thanks also to all of the families that donated a book to the library.

My appreciation also goes out to the staff and students for the presentation of work and displays in classrooms.

At our recent P&C meeting, Aboriginal dictionaries were approved for classes. The year 6 Music evening looks to be a fantastic event with many great acts organised for the Fibonarcci Centre Fremantle on Saturday 19 August from 5:00pm.

At our recent Board meeting the new 2023-2025 Business Plan, with fantastic graphics by Daniel Gretton and photos from Isabel Kruger, was presented. The Board are now looking at finalising the Business plan tracking tool to monitor progress over the next three years.

The Business Plan, along with the Annual Report for 2022, are now on the school website.

Updates on the Body Bright program and other policy drafts were discussed.

The role and strategic directions of the South Metropolitan Education office, responsible for over 270 schools and based at Beaconsfield, was shared with the Board.

The 2024 Voluntary Contributions and possible Charges document was approved and discussion around the school development days was also undertaken.

It was also great to share that our Transportable building has been retained for 2024 as it is well used for the teaching of Italian and the running of support groups.

The Board was given an update on an entrance proposal using local firms that the school is currently looking at.

An education forum is being hosted by our local member, the Hon. Simone McGurk, with the new Minister for education, the Hon. Tony Buti,

for schools in the Fremantle District. Board Chairs and a P&C executive member from each of the 20 schools in the Fremantle area have been invited.

In the next two weeks we have a SEDA football clinic for the early years, Science Week Incursion, Room 1 assembly, Bunnings incursion for PP and Year 1 and National Anti-Bullying Day.

The following week is Book week and our annual Book week parade on Friday 25 August. Room 6 also have their assembly on the Thursday.

Earlier in the term, we mentioned that there is a vacancy on our School Board.

Have you given any thought to joining other parent and staff representatives on this group? I am happy to answer any queries, as are the Board members, Daniel Gretton (Chair), Lee McIntosh, Teresa Kirk, Megan Bankes, Russell Nicholls, Ellie Walker, Kim Felton, Sam Tingle and Glenn Rondoni.

We meet twice a term from 4:30pm-6:00pm either in person or via Webex, if this is more convenient.

Information packs are available from reception.

Thank you to Mrs Walker who has stepped in to cover for Ms Tingle whilst she is on Leave until the end of next week.

Our design a soccer ball competition was a great success with close to 90 entries. Six prizes were awarded, and three entries sent across to a national competition for the opportunity to win 50 balls for the school. Congratulations to Leon who won a new soccer ball, Grace who came second and Mitchell who was third. Steve was 4th, Emelia 5th and Lumi 6th. Their designs were all included in a great display for Open Night.

Information on the Department updated form to fill in for volunteering in the school has come home. Each class has a number of these to hand out to our valuable volunteers whose help in and around the school as well as on excursions, is very much appreciated.
