Literacy and Numeracy

Book Week 2023

This year's Book Week theme is 'Read Grow Inspire'.  Book Week runs from

19th August -25th August.

This year, to celebrate Book Week at St James, our students will participate in a performance facilitated by Meerkat Productions.  This will take place on Thursday 24th August.  Our Year Prep-3 students will view an adaptation of short-listed Picture Story book 'Frank's Red Hat'.  Our Year 4-6 students will view a production of 'The Way of Dog'.  The students will read and unpack these books prior to viewing the production.

Viewing these performances is a great way for our students to connect to the Performing Arts with our upcoming concert.  The opportunity also fosters a love of reading and quality literature.  There will not be a Book Week parade this year.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

Wow!  We certainly have some super star readers at St James!

Well done to our students who have already completed the Challenge!

Please remember to keep logging your books so that they can be verified by 1st September, prior to the challenge closing date.

Indigenous Literacy Day - St James Great Book Swap

It's time to start clearing out bookshelves!  St James will host a 'Great Book Swap' on Indigenous Literacy Day - Wednesday 6th September.

For our new families, we are asking students to donate a book to our Great Book Swap.  Students then visit our library where, for a gold coin donation, they can select a pre-loved book to take home.  The gold coin donation goes directly to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation that assists remote communities with the purchase of resources to promote a love of reading and learning.

Your support with this is greatly appreciated!
