IN OUR LEARNING

Over the last few weeks there has been plenty going on in our learning.

In Reading, we finished our unit on language. We explored how images in sequences allow us to follow a story even if there is no text. We then progressed to exploring Literature. We have compared similar texts and analysed how an author interprets information in different ways through ideas and language.

In Writing, we most recently finished up our narratives. We have been exploring new ways to collect/generate ideas and plan out the events in the story. We have also worked on developing strong sizzling starts, engaging storylines and adding detail or developing ideas to enhance the quality of our work.

In Maths, we recently completed a unit on Perimeter and Area. We have explored the perimeter of basic shapes, irregular shapes and how to find the values of missing sides. We are now exploring concepts of Shape.

In Science, we wrapped up our exploration of planets by investigating the orbit of different planets and how this affects the days in a year on each one. We learnt about the distance between planets and their relation to Earth and we finished the unit with exploring stars and constellations. We have now been focusing on Earth and geological events. In the last couple of weeks, students will create an informational poster on a chosen event such as earthquakes, tsunamis or meteor impacts.

In Geography, students have continued working on their 'focus country' projects. They have chosen a country from either Europe, North America or Asia and have been researching information such as landmarks, climate, population, religion, education and significant events. These projects will be presented in the last week of term.

LIFE ED - HEALTHY HAROLD

A few weeks ago, Harold came to visit. Our unit was called Relate, Respect, Connect.  Students explored:

  • Understanding how and why it’s important to respect ourselves and others.
  • Exploring the impact of disrespectful behaviours.
  • Identifying characteristics of positive relationships and strategies to maintain them.
  • Strategies to respond to unsafe or disrespectful situations online and offline.
  • Strategies for emotional regulation and avenues to seek support when needed.

VICTORIAN STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR

Our VSSS performers had their final hub rehearsal in Week 4 at Officer Secondary College. There were more schools than usual as this was what they called a 'Mega Hub' rehearsal. We practised all of our mass dances in our correct stage positions which was heaps of fun! Our performers have worked so hard and were once again recognised for their fantastic efforts! The countdown is well and truly on for our upcoming dress rehearsals and the actual concerts next week!

5/6 HOOP TIME

We had a great day out at Hoop Time back in Week 5! We were so proud of the efforts of all of our students who represented the school so well! They showed excellent sportsmanship and supported each other wonderfully! Our Future Stars #2 team also made it the Semi-Final where they only lost by 3 points! Fantastic Effort Legends!

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE

On Friday 18th August, we dressed as superheroes to take a stance against bullying. In our grades we explored the impacts of bullying and the different ways we can take action when we witness bullying.

BOOK WEEK

Book Week was a lot of fun! Throughout the week we explored some different authors and illustrators, watching some videos about why they got into the profession, how they complete the writing/illustrating process and what they enjoy about it. We also had our own writing competition and re-designing a front cover competition. We capped it off with our dress-up on Friday. It was fantastic to see so many senior students in costumes!
