IN OUR CLASSROOMS

In our reading sessions, we have been working on reading the questions prior to reading the text to help us work out what to look for as we read. We have been analysing the techniques used in advertisements, specifically the way they try to appeal to our emotions to persuade us to buy a particular product.

In writing, we completed our own persuasive print advertisement. Students created their own slogans and rhetorical questions to entice consumer's to buy their product. The finished advertisements look amazing!

In Numeracy, we finished up our unit on Area and moved on to work on division. We have been making connections between division and multiplication and using our knowledge of multiplication facts to help us solve division problems.

In Geography we began researching the continent of South America and identified and located some of the countries and major cities.

In Science we have been learning how to make sundials to measure time by the movement of the sun.

PILLOWCASE PROJECT

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Margaret and Alan from Red Cross to learn more about the Pillowcase Project. The students engaged in discussions and activities to help them understand the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency and to know what to pack in an emergency kit. All students were given a pillowcase to decorate and take home, to start their own personal emergency kit.

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING

It was great to see students get into the spirit of things and dress up as a superhero on the National Day of Action Against Bullying. We had lots of really valuable discussions about what constitutes bullying and the ways we can make a stand against it.

BOOK WEEK

Students engaged in a variety of activities throughout the week, such as redesigning the cover of their favourite book, writing book reviews and making book marks. The highlight of the week was definitely dress up day and the parade on Friday.
