Our Annual House Athletics will be held on Thursday 24th August 2023 from 9.30 until 3.00pm.

Students will compete for their House in 100m, 200m, 800m, discus, long jump, shot put, triple jump (and hurdles weather permitting). High jump results will be completed in PE lessons at school during the term. The track and field events allow students to demonstrate their fundamental movement skills in accordance with rules of competition, sportsmanship and teamwork. All events are run in age groups not school year levels. A student turning eleven in this calendar year will compete as an eleven year old. Students that are older than that will compete as “12 year olds plus” and students in year 4 that are younger than that will compete in the “9 and 10 year old” category. Students in year 3 do not take part in school sport.

All students in Year 4, 5 and 6 are expected to participate in the House Athletics as it is a part of the Physical Education and Sport Program. If your child is not able to participate on this day, could you please notify the class teacher (and also decline the event on Compass as early as possible) The best performing students will be able to represent the school at the District Athletic Carnival scheduled for the 12th of September, and further opportunities exist for success at this event.

Our team for District is made up of 2 competitors in each event except the 100m, 200m and the hurdles (restricted due to time constraints at the District event) for which there is only one place per category. In each age group, our best performing cross country runners will have selection opportunities for the 1500m race and our four fastest 100m runners will form the relay teams.

Students taking part in the District Athletics are limited to 2 events (plus any relay race positions) so students that are eligible to represent the school in more events will need to select no more than 2 events (plus relay teams) prior to the team list being confirmed for the District competition.

This year we have a date clash for District Athletics with the Team Vic Athletics trial date. Any student that; holds a place for an event at District, meets the Team Vic trial requirements, and attends the Team Vic trial is eligible to request an invitation to the Division Athletics event. Submitting an invitation request form does not guarantee an invitation to the event. The correct code to support the request is D

D. The student/team will not be attending the previous level of competition because of their participation in a sporting event or competition considered to be of greater status than the previous level of competition at that time.

Parent help is an essential part of the House Athletics event and no prior experience is necessary! Parents will be asked to assist students to move between events, assist on event locations and assist with set up/ pack up of equipment. 40 parents helpers will be required to ensure that parent helpers also get time to watch their child/ren compete in events on the day.

Please complete the volunteer Sign up form (link below) if you are able to help on the day. Specific events are listed, however, each event will be run by a member of staff and will be able to fully brief helpers. The final Category of helper, “Parent Help late arrival” will give us some indication of how many people might be able to volunteer for half of the day and be able to hand over to someone else at some point in time.

Head Lice

We have had an increase in the number of students with head lice.

Preventing head lice: there is no product available that prevents head lice. However, tying long hair back and checking weekly for lice, using the conditioner and comb method, can help prevent the spread.

The easiest and most effective way to find head lice is to use the conditioner and comb treatment weekly. This includes:

  • Step 1. Comb hair conditioner onto dry, brushed (detangled) hair. This makes it difficult for lice to grip the hair or run around.
  • Step 2. Thoroughly comb sections of the hair with a fine tooth head lice comb.
  • Step 3. Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or tissue.
  • Step 4. Look on the tissue and on the comb for lice and eggs.
  • Step 5. Repeat the combing for every part of the head at least four or five times.
  • Step 6. If lice or eggs are found, the person should be treated
