9Life Community Arts

This term in 9Life community arts, in the second week we went on an excursion to Realm Artspace at Eastland, and we went on an art walk with three of the employees from there. We are also painting a mural in C5, the main classroom of the learning centre here. The mural is based on a model made by one of the art teachers, Miss Siobhan Nicol, and it symbolises the Dandenong Creek trail, which is quite close to our school and many of the school community use the trail to travel to and from school. As a class we are working together to paint the mural on the walls of C5, as well as learning about community arts and how to work together as we paint. We have been working together as a class to mix the colours and to paint. The mural is going quite well, I think we are about halfway done, and I’ve been finding it really fun to work with the kids in my class and Miss Growse to plan and paint the mural. Our next plan for it is to make the stencils for the plants that we’re going to include in the mural. It’s been really enjoyable so far and I can’t wait to finish it. I’m sure it will look amazing when we’re done painting it because it already looks great and it’s just a load of blobs of colour at the moment.
